Renault Unveils RGEP Platform with Focus on India and Flexible Powertrains
Renault has unveiled its RGEP platform at the Futuready event, focusing on India with high localization, flexible powertrains, and improved practicality for models like the Triber, while replacing the CMF-A platform.

Renault has introduced its new RGEP (Renault Group Entry Platform) at the ‘Futuready’ event, highlighting India’s pivotal role in its global strategy. The RGEP platform aims to replace the existing CMF-A architecture and will support a wide range of body styles and powertrains. Renault’s approach focuses on growth, technology, excellence, and trust, with India at the center of these initiatives.
Key Highlights
- Renault introduces RGEP platform with focus on India and flexible powertrains
- Underbody CNG tank design maintains third row usability in MPVs and family vehicles
- Triber to receive a larger engine and improved space optimization with new platform
- RGEP offers high localization with over 90 percent Indian content and supports multiple powertrains
Key Features of RGEP Platform

One of the standout features of the RGEP platform is the underbody-mounted CNG tank. This design choice ensures that third-row seating remains usable, which is important for MPVs and family vehicles. The CNG filler is located next to the regular fuel filler, making refueling more convenient compared to traditional setups where the filler is under the bonnet.
The RGEP platform is set to replace the CMF-A platform, which currently underpins models like the Kwid. The Kiger and Triber will migrate to this new architecture. RGEP is highly versatile, supporting hatchbacks, SUVs, and MPVs. It accommodates various powertrains, including internal combustion engines, CNG, Flex, hybrid electric vehicles (HEV), and electric vehicles (EV). The platform also supports 2WD, 4WD, and e4WD, as well as transmission options such as AMT and CVT. Seating configurations will range from five to seven seats, emphasizing its modular design.
Impact on Triber and Localisation
The Triber will benefit from a larger engine and improved space optimization with the new platform. This addresses previous limitations and enhances practicality for customers. Renault’s strategy is to be growth-ready, aiming to leverage the projected 35 percent growth in the Indian automotive market.
On the technology front, Renault is investing in local engineering, with plans to employ around 6,000 engineers and develop two new platforms. The company’s trust-ready initiative involves strengthening its presence with 15,000 employees, 350 sales touchpoints, and 450 service centers, supported by over 130 local suppliers.
Renault claims the RGEP platform is over 90 percent localized for India. This high level of localization is intended to keep costs down while allowing for product upgrades, better vehicle dynamics, and increased flexibility. These efforts support Renault’s plan for sustained growth and innovation in the Indian market.
