River Mobility to establish new factory to boost production in India
Bengaluru-based EV startup River Mobility has announced plans to set up a new manufacturing facility to meet the rising demand for its electric scooters.

River Mobility, a Bengaluru-based electric vehicle startup, is considering a new manufacturing facility to support increased production and its expanding product pipeline. The company aims to finalize its next funding round within this year to enable the scale-up.
Key Highlights
- River Mobility plans new manufacturing facility to meet rising demand
- Current production is 10,000 electric scooters per month or 1.2 lakh units annually
- New models RX02 and RX03 are expected to increase sales and require more capacity
- Yamaha partnership adds EC-06 production and $40 million investment
- New high-volume scooter launch planned for early 2027
Expansion Driven by Rising Demand
River Mobility currently produces about 10,000 electric scooters each month, totaling around 120,000 units annually. The company’s first electric scooter, the Indie, has seen strong demand. This growth, along with new models in development, is pushing the limits of the existing manufacturing setup.
The company is developing new models, codenamed RX02 and RX03, which are expected to boost sales further. These additions will likely require more production capacity than the current facility can provide.
Strategic Location and Partnerships

River Mobility is exploring several states for the new plant. Sources indicate that the facility may be located near Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India’s plant in Narasapura. This area is known for its established automotive supplier network and industrial infrastructure, making it a strategic choice.
Aravind Mani, Co-Founder and CEO of River Mobility, confirmed ongoing discussions with state governments. He stated that no final decision has been made yet and that the company expects to close its next funding round this year.
Collaboration with Yamaha and Future Plans
River Mobility will also manufacture the Yamaha EC-06 electric scooter, which could add about 5,000 units to its production volume. In February 2024, Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. invested $40 million in River through a Series B funding round. This partnership aims to develop and manufacture high-performance electric scooters for both the Indian and global markets.
The EC-06 will be built on River’s Indie platform. River will handle manufacturing, while Yamaha will manage sales and after-sales through its existing dealer network. Mani confirmed that River has already delivered scooters to Yamaha and that retail sales have begun.
River’s current factory has the capacity to produce up to 100,000 Indie scooters per month but has not yet reached full utilization. The company’s plans for a new facility reflect its intention to scale up significantly.
