The Royal Enfield Konyak is a custom scrambler motorcycle based on the entry-level Hunter 350. Gujarat-based JD Customs built this special edition for the 'Hunterhood' tour, which represents North East India and the Seven Sisters states. The Konyak draws its name from the warrior tribe of the region and is designed to handle the challenging terrain found there.
Key Highlights
- Royal Enfield Konyak is a custom scrambler based on the Hunter 350
- JD Customs built the Konyak for the Hunterhood tour representing North East India
- Features include a flat-tracker headlight, gold alloy wheels, and a custom high-set exhaust
- Mono-shock rear suspension and custom subframe increase ground clearance and seat height
- Retains the J Series 349.34cc engine with 20.2 bhp and 27 Nm torque
Design and Custom Modifications
The Konyak features a complete transformation from the standard Hunter 350. The original round 7-inch headlight has been replaced with a flat-tracker style setup that uses two bright LED units. A high-set front mudguard, resembling a beak, sits below the headlight. The front forks now have a raw metallic finish, replacing the stock black color.
The wheels are alloy units painted gold, while the main body color is green, inspired by the forests of North East India. Ivory branding and red pinstriping provide contrast. A brass fuel cap cover, shaped like a Konyak hunter’s necklace, adds a unique detail. The exhaust system is custom-built and positioned high, similar to Triumph Scrambler motorcycles. The seat is a custom single-piece unit finished in brown leather.
Performance and Mechanical Changes

Significant changes are visible at the rear. JD Customs installed a mono-shock rear suspension, requiring a custom-built rear subframe. The rear architecture is altered to fit this setup. The modifications increase ground clearance, seat height, and handlebar height, offering a more confident off-road riding posture. The rear fender is shortened, and a small circular LED tail light is fitted. The swingarm and rear braking hardware also feature a raw metallic finish.
The Konyak retains the stock circular instrument cluster and the Tripper Screen for navigation. The motorcycle continues to use the J Series 349.34cc air-cooled engine, which produces 20.2 bhp and 27 Nm of torque in its standard form.
Context and Significance
Royal Enfield is known for its strong presence in the classic and neo-retro motorcycle segments. The brand supports a vibrant custom motorcycle culture and often commissions special builds to highlight the potential for modification. The Konyak project demonstrates how the Hunter 350 can be adapted for rugged use and personalized styling, reflecting the spirit of North East India.
