Skoda CEO Klaus Zellmer hinted at the potential comeback of the Yeti during an interview with German publication Auto Motor Und Sport. Although the new Yeti might not be launched in Europe, its re-entry into India is under active consideration. Known for its distinctive boxy design and rugged appeal, the Yeti has a niche fan base in India, where its discontinued model is still remembered fondly.

The new-gen Yeti will retain its hallmark boxy profile and rugged aesthetic, but with a modern makeover. It is likely to feature a more contemporary design while continuing to emphasize practicality, space, and strong road presence.

Petrol Powertrain and Modern Features

The new Skoda Yeti is expected to align with Skoda’s petrol-only strategy for the Indian market. A diesel variant is unlikely due to stricter emission norms. The SUV might borrow the 1.5-litre TSI engine from the Skoda Kushaq, delivering 150 PS of power and paired with a 7-speed DSG transmission for smooth performance.

To appeal to modern buyers, the new Yeti will likely be equipped with advanced features such as a large touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a sunroof.

Safety and Size Upgrades

Safety remains a key focus for Skoda, as demonstrated by the 5-star NCAP ratings achieved by the Kushaq and Slavia. The new Yeti is expected to follow suit with top-tier safety features, including Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) in higher trims.

In terms of size, the upcoming Yeti is expected to be larger than its predecessor, making it more practical for families and offering a better road presence. Positioned above the Kushaq in Skoda’s lineup, it will cater to a premium segment within the compact SUV category.

Breaking the Monotony

With its current lineup of SUVs like the Kushaq and Kylaq sharing similar design elements, Skoda aims to break the monotony by reintroducing a distinctively styled model. The Yeti, with its bold design and practical features, can attract a broader customer base and add variety to Skoda’s Indian portfolio.

Conclusion

The Skoda Yeti’s potential comeback could inject fresh energy into the Indian SUV market. By combining its rugged heritage with modern technology and safety features, the new Yeti could stand out as a unique offering. While Skoda is yet to confirm the launch, the revival of this iconic SUV is sure to excite fans and expand Skoda’s footprint in India’s growing automotive landscape.
