Volvo EX90 electric SUV India launch confirmed for August 2026

Volvo India has confirmed the launch of its flagship electric SUV, the EX90, for August 18, 2026. The EX90 is the electric version of the XC90, known for its safety record. This large luxury SUV features a spacious cabin, premium interiors, a powerful electric motor, and long-range battery options. Volvo expects to price the EX90 at Rs 1.2 crore (ex-showroom).

Exterior and Interior Features

The Volvo EX90 displays a blanked-off, body-coloured front panel with the Volvo logo at the centre. Pixel-style LED daytime running lights hide the LED headlights until they are switched on, creating a concealed look. The grille sits lower on the bumper, flanked by vertically stacked LED fog lamps. From the side, the EX90 appears substantial, featuring optional 22-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels, a long wheelbase, and flush door handles for an elegant profile.

At the rear, the EX90 includes split C-shaped LED tail lamps that extend into the bootlid. The wide bumpers integrate the rear fog lamps, and segmented LED lamps surround the rear windscreen. These elements give the rear a distinctive appearance.

Inside, the EX90 offers a minimalist design with a large portrait-orientated infotainment screen. A digital driver’s display sits on the dashboard, while chrome inserts run from the AC vents to behind the steering wheel. The AC vents are integrated into the dashboard for a clean look. The three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel and plush, supportive seats enhance comfort. Both front and rear seats feature heating functionality.

Technology and Safety Equipment

The EX90 comes equipped with a 14.5-inch infotainment touchscreen that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and built-in Google Maps navigation. It also offers four-zone climate control with an air purifier, a fixed panoramic sunroof, an 8-inch digital driver’s display, and a 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins premium sound system. Additional features include a heads-up display, ambient lighting, and heated seats for the first and second rows.

Safety remains a priority for Volvo. The EX90 includes an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) with adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, cross-traffic alert, and front and rear collision warning. The SUV is equipped with nine airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounts in the second and third rows, a 360-degree camera with blind spot monitoring, whiplash protection, and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

Battery Options and Rivals

Globally, Volvo offers the EX90 with two battery pack options: a 92 kWh pack and a 106 kWh pack. The 106 kWh battery is available in two different power outputs. The EX90 will compete with the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, the Kia EV9, and the upcoming BMW iX5 in the Indian market.
