Suzuki Colombia has introduced the Burgman 150, a new maxi-scooter that brings several upgrades over the India-spec Burgman Street. The Burgman 150 features a sharper design, updated technology, and a more powerful engine. This launch highlights Suzuki's approach to the growing premium scooter segment in international markets.
Key Highlights
- Suzuki Colombia launches Burgman 150 with 149cc engine and advanced features
- Burgman 150 offers 14.2 HP and 14.2 Nm torque with larger under-seat storage
- New model features traction control dual-channel ABS and 14-inch wheels
Key Differences from India-Spec Burgman Street
The Burgman 150 stands out with its more substantial bodywork and cleaner surfacing compared to the Burgman Street sold in India. The front design includes a split-headlamp setup, an inverted horseshoe-shaped daytime running light, and a centrally positioned projector lamp. At the rear, the taillight design is completely new and appears more premium than the unit on the Burgman Street 125.
One of the significant changes is the larger underseat storage area. The Burgman 150 offers more room under the seat than the Burgman Street, making it more practical for carrying personal items or helmets.
Engine and Performance Upgrades
The Burgman 150 is powered by a 149cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine. This engine produces 14.2 HP at 8,500 rpm and 14.2 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. Compared to the 124cc engine on the Burgman Street, the Burgman 150 delivers an increase of 5.8 HP and 4 Nm. These improvements provide better acceleration and performance, aligning the scooter with international maxi-scooter standards.
The scooter also introduces several advanced features. It comes equipped with traction control, dual-channel ABS, keyless ignition, a TFT display, and USB-C charging. The Burgman 150 uses a 14-inch wheel setup, while the Burgman Street in India rides on 12-inch wheels. These changes enhance both safety and rider convenience.
Market Position and Prospects
The Burgman 150 could compete with models like the Yamaha Aerox 155 and Hero Xoom 160 if introduced in India. However, Suzuki would likely position it as a comfort-focused alternative to these sportier options. The Indian scooter market is still dominated by 110cc-125cc models, and the 150cc segment remains a niche category.
Despite the growing interest in premium two-wheelers in India, the launch of the Burgman 150 in the country appears unlikely. The current market trends favor smaller-displacement scooters, and Suzuki has not announced plans to bring the Burgman 150 to India. The Burgman 150’s features and power make it suitable for markets seeking more premium and practical scooters.
