Tata Sierra AWD Will Be Launching in 2027 Along With Tata Sierra EV

Tata Motors has recently launched the all-new 2025 Tata Sierra, carving the 90s nostalgia into the 2025 iteration. However, the brand has a lot more to bring to the Indian customers. According to the Chief Commercial Officer, Vivek Srivastava, the brand will be bringing the AWD variant for both ICE and EV as soon as possible. This new variant will join the Sierra EV, enhancing the brand’s commitment to versatile and powerful SUVs designed for Indian roads.

The eagerly awaited Tata Sierra AWD is set to make its grand entrance in early 2027, promising an exciting twist to the popular Tata Sierra lineup. Both models will be offering a robust design and high adaptability. Built on the futuristic ARGOS platform, the Sierra AWD will continue Tata’s legacy in the SUV segment, delivering a blend of advanced powertrains and smart off-road capabilities for the modern driver for the first time in 5 years.

Tata Motors has officially launched the 2025 iteration of Sierra, making a comeback after 23 years in the Indian automotive landscape. The SUV gets three 1.5L, 4-cylinder engines, each poised to cater to different drivers with different styling. Alongside the rear-wheel drive, the brand has also confirmed that the all-wheel drive is under development and will be launched in 2027.

The upcoming Sierra AWD will be built on Tata’s ARGOS platform—All-terrain Ready, Omni-Energy, and Geometry Scalable Architecture—which supports a variety of powertrains and drivetrain layouts, including AWD for both ICE and electric models. This monocoque platform primarily features front-wheel drive but is engineered to accommodate all-wheel drive seamlessly.

The Sierra EV AWD variant is expected to launch earlier, likely in early 2026, featuring a dual-motor setup akin to the Harrier EV. It is anticipated to house 65 kWh and 75 kWh battery pack options, delivering more than 550 kilometers of driving range per charge with multiple drive and terrain modes for enhanced off-road and urban driving adaptability.

Following this, the ICE-powered Sierra AWD will arrive in 2027, marking Tata’s return to ICE all-wheel drive SUVs after the discontinuation of the Hexa in 2020. Engine choices for the ICE Sierra include a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.5-liter turbo-petrol, and a 1.5-liter turbo-diesel powertrain.
