While Tesla, a US-based EV manufacturer, is analyzing its India entry and tariff reliefs, the Tesla Model Y facelift was recently tested on Indian roads. The EV brand has already commenced homologation for Model Y in India along with Model 3, increasing the chances of these to be the first models to go for sale in the country. The spied images reflect that Tesla will offer Indian customers the latest iteration of its Model Y.

Tesla Model Y Facelift Spied Tested

The spied test mule is properly covered in camouflage, and the front and rear headlamps are enough to indicate that it's the facelifted model. In January 2025, Tesla launched its flagship EV with major exterior design upgrades, including an updated split headlamp with new full-width LED light signatures on both front and rear with refined aero-efficient elements. Inside the cabin, the Model Y features a minimalistic interior equipped with a 15.4-inch touchscreen and a rear passenger 8.0-inch touchscreen.

Tesla Model Y is offered in two variants: RWD and Long-Range AWD. The entry-level RWD variant offers a range of 662 km on a single charge, while the Long Range AWD variants deliver 719 km of range. Tesla claims the vehicle can sprint 0-100 km/h in 4.3 seconds for AWD variants, while the single motor RWD accelerates 0-100 km/h in 5.9 seconds.

Tesla's India Entry May Be Sooner Than Expected

The US-based electric vehicle brand has already confirmed the Mumbai showroom on a 5-year lease and is also searching for showroom space in Delhi. Tesla India Motor & Energy, Tesla's Indian subsidiary, has started hiring for various positions in customer service, sales, and product development.

Initially, the company will launch its vehicles as CBUs, while it's also exploring possible contract manufacturing rather than setting up a greenfield plant immediately. Tesla aims to use a direct-to-consumer approach with fully owned retail operations and a Supercharger network.
