VinFast India begins operations with the first 200 recruits at the Thoothukudi EV plant
VinFast India has inducted its first 200 locally hired professionals at the Thoothukudi EV plant in Tamil Nadu. This hiring milestone is part of a broader plan to generate up to 3,500 jobs over five years.

VinFast India is now on track to make a subtle entry into the Indian automotive market. The company has announced that they are ready to hire 200 local professional workers as soon as the inauguration of the factory in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, takes place. A subsidiary of the VinGroup Enterprises, the automotive brand VinFast decided to hire more skilled workers who would help them not just to build cars but also to build a comprehensive ecosystem.
In a move that underscores its long-term commitment, VinFast India has already announced a major local employment initiative. They have started the recruitment of 200 skilled and semi-skilled workers through a recruitment drive held in April. However, the recruiters saw more than 300 applications from different regions.
Increase in job creation with the Government Partnership Facility
VinFast's entrance into India will create more job opportunities for the people of Tamil Nadu. The hiring procedure has been coordinated with the undertaking of the District Collectors’ Office, the polytechnic colleges of the state, plant directors, and senior members of the recruitment drive. Hence, seeing more applicants than the available positions, the company decided to hire more than 3500 workers for the next five years.
Pham Sanh Chau, CEO of VinFast Asia, praised the coordination work between District Collector K. Elambahavath and the plant seniors in achieving young talented workers who will help move the company's future upward.
Mr. Chau said to the news that, “The government of Tamil Nadu has been extremely helpful. Whenever we propose anything, they make the effort and satisfy our requirements. We cannot build a factory in 15 months without the kind, continuous, and generous support from the government of Tamil Nadu...from Chief Minister M.K. Stalin himself, his Cabinet, and especially Minister for Industries T.R.B. Rajaa. So, that is why…[though] we were approached by many state governments, we made a final call to invest in Tamil Nadu.”
The company’s hybrid workforce model ensures that local communities benefit directly from the plant’s operations, while the involvement of experienced professionals raises the bar for quality and innovation. The Tamil Nadu plant will assemble both the VinFast VF6 and VF7 for Indian markets.
The Thoothukudi plant will catalyze regional growth

The Thoothukudi facility will be the cornerstone of VinFast’s Asia expansion plan. As the company is willing to increase its production portfolio in the upcoming years. Already, the recruiters saw an upward rise in candidates ready to work for the company. All hiring took place at the plant under a major investment and employment initiative formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu government. All selection processes for the candidates are in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu government’s Naan Mudhalvan skilling initiative.
The state government and VinFast signed an agreement in early 2024 to establish an integrated electric vehicle manufacturing facility with an investment of up to Rs 16,000 crore (about $2 billion) over several years. It is expected to create 3,000–3,500 local jobs, with the first 200 employees already onboarded as part of the selection process.
