Volkswagen confirms launch date for Lower-spec Tayron SUV in India
Volkswagen is set to introduce a more accessible version of the Tayron SUV in India, targeting buyers seeking premium design and practicality at a competitive price point.

Volkswagen has confirmed that the lower-spec, non-R-Line version of the Tayron SUV will launch in India on July 10. This follows earlier reports about the introduction of a more affordable Tayron variant for the Indian market. The company released a teaser video showing key design elements of the new model.
Key Highlights
- Volkswagen will launch the lower-spec Tayron SUV in India on July 10.
- Teaser reveals projector LED headlights and dual-tone seat upholstery.
- Expected to use the same 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine as the R-Line variant.
- Likely to be priced below the Tayron R-Line's Rs 46.99 lakh ex-showroom price.
Exterior and Interior Design Details

The teaser video reveals that the lower-spec Tayron will feature a headlight design similar to the Tayron R-Line. It includes projector LED units, a connected light bar, and an illuminated Volkswagen logo at the centre. Details about the grille and front bumper are not disclosed, but these are expected to be simpler than the sportier R-Line version.
In profile, the SUV displays a new alloy wheel design, though the exact wheel size is not confirmed. For reference, the Tayron R-Line uses 19-inch alloy wheels. The teaser also shows gloss-black wheel arches and roof rails. At the rear, the SUV features connected LED taillights and an illuminated Volkswagen logo. The rear bumper design is expected to differ from the R-Line model.
Inside, the lower-spec Tayron is shown with dual-tone seat upholstery, in contrast to the all-black interior of the R-Line. The cabin layout appears to retain the free-standing touchscreen infotainment system and digital driver’s display seen in the higher variant. Other visible features include blue ambient lighting, metal pedals, and a panoramic sunroof.
Engine, Features, and Pricing
Volkswagen has not yet released the full feature list for the lower-spec Tayron. However, it is expected to omit some equipment found in the R-Line variant. The lower-spec Tayron is likely to use the same 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine as the R-Line, producing 204 HP of power and 320 Nm of torque. It is also expected to retain the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) system.
As a lower-spec model, Volkswagen is expected to price it below the Tayron R-Line, which currently retails at Rs 46.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The new variant will compete with other SUVs in the segment, including the Skoda Kodiaq and Jeep Meridian.
The teaser confirms Volkswagen’s strategy to broaden the Tayron lineup in India by offering a more accessible option. The official launch on July 10 will provide more details on features, pricing, and availability.
