Xiaomi is expanding its electric vehicle lineup with the YU7 SUV, targeting Europe and the US first from 2027. The YU7 Pro offers 681bhp, while the GT variant is expected to reach 989bhp. India launch will follow global rollout.

Xiaomi, known for its smartphones, is expanding its presence in the electric vehicle market. The company launched its first electric car, the SU7, in March 2024. Following its success in China, Xiaomi introduced the YU7 SUV. The brand plans to enter the European and US markets first, with global expansion expected from 2027.
Key Highlights
- Xiaomi plans to expand YU7 SUV to Europe and US from 2027
- YU7 Pro variant offers 681bhp and accelerates 0-100kmph in 3.2 seconds
- YU7 GT test mule expected to deliver 989bhp and 300kmph top speed
- India launch faces regulatory hurdles and will follow global expansion
- Xiaomi aims for mass-premium segment in India similar to BYD's strategy
YU7 SUV Specifications and Variants
The base Xiaomi YU7 features a 220kW (295bhp) rear-axle motor. The higher-spec YU7 Pro includes an additional 288kW (386bhp) motor, resulting in a combined output of 508kW (681bhp) and all-wheel drive. The YU7 Pro accelerates from 0 to 100kmph in 3.2 seconds and reaches a top speed of 253kmph.
A test version of the YU7, bearing GT badges, was recently seen undisguised internationally. This GT variant is expected to deliver around 738kW (989bhp) through a dual-motor setup. The estimated top speed for the YU7 GT is about 300kmph. The front design of the YU7 GT resembles high-end models, indicating Xiaomi's focus on the flagship segment.
Market Strategy and Expansion Plans
The Xiaomi YU7 GT measures 4,999mm in length, 1,996mm in width, and 1,600mm in height. These dimensions are similar to the Ferrari Purosangue. A Xiaomi SU7 Ultra was also seen at a Ferrari facility, likely for benchmarking purposes.
In India, Xiaomi is primarily recognized as a phone brand, with the recent launch of the 17 Ultra flagship smartphone. The company acknowledges that India is a price-sensitive market but notes that consumers will pay for premium products. Xiaomi's cars have seen high demand in China, and the company aims to meet local demand before expanding further.
Xiaomi's strategy for India may involve introducing a mass-premium car in the Rs. 25-40 lakh segment, similar to the approach taken by BYD India. However, the company will prioritize launching its cars in the US and EU, where premium vehicles are more popular. Xiaomi showcased the SU7 in India to build brand perception but expects limited buyers for its performance-focused models due to market differences and regulatory challenges.
Chinese investments in India face heavy scrutiny, and homologation processes may delay Xiaomi's car launches in the country. The brand plans to use international acceptance to strengthen its image before introducing India-specific models.
