2024 BMW 5 Series Debuts in India; Poised to Compete with E-Class LWB

• BMW 5 Series LWB, launching on June 24, 2024, is the largest car in its segment with a length of 5,175 mm and a wheelbase of 3,105 mm.

• This new model will replace the current 6 Series GT and compete directly with the upcoming Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB.
• The 5 Series LWB comes with 18-inch alloys and 225-section tires, with an option to upgrade to 19-inch alloys, differing from the broader tires of the E-Class and previous 5 Series.

BMW Motors revealed the 5 Series LWB for the Indian Market, the official launch is set to take place on 24 June 2024. The German car manufacturer earlier this year launched the all-electric SWB (Standard Wheelbase) 5 series, the i5, in the Indian market. While the i5 is the latest electric sedan by the automaker its non-electric counterpart is larger and more flamboyant with the new design and size.

Exteriors and Dimensions

The 5 series LWB once launched will be the largest car in its segment, measuring 5,175 mm in length, 1900 mm in width and 1,520 mm in height, along with a massive wheelbase of 3,105 mm. Therefore making the 5 series LWB larger than the upcoming E-Class LWB with a length of 5,092 mm, width of 1,880 mm and height of 1,493 mm, along with a wheelbase of 3,094 mm. 

The design language places the car in the chauffeur-driven segment where the owners prefer to sit in the back and relax, making the space and comfort in the rear seats the major selling point. The BMW coined 2.5 box design where the roof is straight flat until the rear passenger seats to give ample headroom, also makes it evident that the 5 series LWB is more focused towards the rear passengers.

The wheels though can prove to be a point of concern. The 5 series LWB comes with 18-inch alloys with 225-section tyres all around, with an option to upgrade to the 19-inch alloys, whereas the current E-class comes with 245-section tyres in all the wheels while the earlier 5 series had 245-section tyres in the front wheels accompanied with 275-section tyres in the rear wheels.

Overall the Design of the BMW 5 series LWB especially with the golden trims on the front and rear makes it flamboyant and classy looking while retaining the sharp and sporty look.

The Interiors 

BMW 5 Series LWB inherits the goodness of its predecessors and continues with elegant and rich-looking interiors associated with the German brand. The German LWB comes with the classic BMW's twin curved screen having a 14.9-inch infotainment cluster and a 12.3-inch instrumentation cluster running iDrive 8.5, with climate controls embedded with-in the infotainment system. 

With vegan dual-tone interiors, the 2024 5-Series offers chunky steering having physical cruise control buttons on the left and audio controls on the right. The centre console also accommodates the controls for the iDrive 8.5 along with the transmission and some other physical buttons.

BMW 5 Series LWB will be replacing the current 6 series GT and will be a direct competitor to the upcoming Mercedes Benz E-class LWB. The 2024 5 series LWB is set to be launched with the complete list of specifications and prices on the 24th of June 2024.
