KTM 490 Duke Latest Update

Latest Update

The upcoming KTM 490 Duke is part of KTM's new 490cc range, which will feature parallel-twin engines. The expected date of the launch of this bike will be April 2025, with the expected price range of Rs 3.5 Lacs to Rs 3.8 Lacs (ex-showroom).

Engine

The KTM 490 Duke will be powered by a brand-new 490cc parallel-twin, liquid-cooled, dual-cylinder engine which has 4 valves per cylinder. This engine will produce estimated power of 55-60 hp and 45-50 Nm of torque. Additionally, this engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox with assist and slipper clutch feature.

Design and Frame

The 490 Duke will use a somewhat revised version of the existing trellis frame to accommodate the wider 490cc engine. The suspension system is anticipated inverted WP-Apex front forks and a WP-Apex rear mono-shock suspension. The 490 Duke will likely follow KTM's new design language.

Features

We anticipate features like ride-by-wire, traction control, quick shifter, cornering dual-channel ABS, and a full-color TFT display for the instrument cluster. While details are scarce, the bike's styling might not be very different from the current single-cylinder versions. It could feature all-LED headlamps similar to the Duke 390. Additionally, this motorcycle will possibly have three riding configurations - Rain, Street, and Sport Mode.

Rivals

The KTM Duke 490 will compete in the market against Kawasaki Z400, Honda CB500F, and BMW G 130 R

How is KTM 490 Duke Bike?

KTM 490 Duke: Overview

The KTM 490 Duke was expected to be a significant addition to KTM’s mid-capacity lineup, positioned between the KTM 390 Duke and larger twin-cylinder models. Designed to offer stronger performance and improved refinement, the bike aimed to attract enthusiasts seeking a step up from the 390. However, reports suggest the project has now been cancelled due to development cost challenges.

Key Highlights

  • Expected to be powered by a new 490cc parallel-twin engine
  • Estimated output could have been around 50-55 hp and close to 45-48 Nm
  • Likely price range was expected to start from around ₹3.5 lakh (ex-showroom)
  • Anticipated launch timeline was around September 2026
  • Could have featured advanced electronics like ride modes, traction control, and TFT display
  • Potential rivals included the BMW G 310 R, Benelli 302S, and QJMotor SRK 400

Talking of design, the motorcycle was likely to carry forward the sharp and aggressive streetfighter styling seen on KTM’s Duke lineup. Elements such as a muscular fuel tank, split LED headlamp, exposed trellis frame, and minimalist tail section were expected to give it a bold road presence.

Feature-wise, the 490 Duke was expected to be well-equipped with a full-color TFT instrument cluster, ride-by-wire throttle, traction control, and multiple riding modes. These technologies would have positioned the bike as a technologically advanced offering in the mid-size naked segment.

Conclusion
Although the KTM 490 Duke generated significant excitement among enthusiasts, the project has reportedly been discontinued due to the high cost of developing a new small-capacity twin-cylinder engine. Had it launched, the motorcycle could have filled an important gap in KTM’s lineup and offered riders a compelling step up from the 390cc segment.
