About Hero Bikes

The Hero brand, which has come to symbolize two-wheelers throughout the region, originated in India. The adventure started in 1956 when Hero Cycles was founded in Ludhiana, Punjab, by the Munjal brothers under the direction of Brijmohan Lall Munjal. Their first priority was making bicycles, which were well-liked right once since they were reasonably priced and dependable.

Hero Cycles attempted to enter the motorcycle market in the late 1970s and early 1980s as India's economy started to open up and customer demand for motorised two-wheelers rose. Hero Honda Motors Limited was founded in 1983 as a result of Hero Cycles and Honda, the Japanese automaker, forming a strategic alliance. Through the introduction of reasonably priced and fuel-efficient bikes, this partnership completely transformed the Indian motorcycle industry.

Hero Honda: A Game-Changing Partnership

The Hero Honda CD100, which debuted in 1985 and is renowned for its outstanding dependability and fuel efficiency, signalled Hero Honda's entry into the market. The brand's emphasis on minimum maintenance and economical fuel usage was encapsulated in the tagline "Fill it – Shut it – Forget it." Hero Honda established itself as the biggest motorcycle manufacturer in the world throughout the decades that followed by creating well-known models like the Splendor, Passion, and CBZ.

Dissolution of the Hero Honda Joint Venture

In December 2010, Hero and Honda dissolved their joint venture amicably after over 26 years of a fruitful collaboration. Hero's goal to grow internationally and broaden its product line and Honda's wish to establish a separate presence in the Indian market were the driving forces behind this choice. In 2011, the Hero Group, led by Munjal, rebranded the business as Hero MotoCorp Ltd. after acquiring Honda's 26 percent ownership.

Hero MotoCorp set out on its own with ambition and conviction. The company launched models under its own name and underwent a major rebranding, which included a new logo. Hero made significant investments in R&D without Honda's technical assistance, setting up the Hero Tech Center Germany in Munich and the Hero Centre of Innovation and Technology (CIT) in Jaipur, India.
