This will be India's most affordable convertible car undercutting even the MG Cyberster.
The new Mini Convertible arrives in India at a time when cars are getting bigger, heavier and more tech-centric. Yet this one stands apart for a very simple reason — it reminds you how enjoyable driving can be when the basics are done right and the roof can disappear at the touch of a button. After spending time behind the wheel, it’s clear that this Mini isn’t just about lifestyle; it’s about emotion, connection and the sheer charm of open-air motoring.

The Convertible looks instantly familiar but fresh enough to feel new. The proportions remain tight and athletic, with short overhangs and that signature upright stance. The wide-set headlamps, the contrasting roof line and the clean surfacing give it a cheeky yet confident presence.
The soft-top roof integrates neatly into the body when closed, and when it folds away, the car takes on a more playful character. With the top down, the windscreen frame stands tall and the beltline remains low, giving the cabin an airy, open feel. It’s a compact car, but from the outside, it still manages to look premium and distinct — the sort of shape that naturally draws attention without trying too hard.
Step inside and you’re greeted by a cabin that blends retro flavour with modern touches. The round elements, toggle switches and textured surfaces create an environment that feels special without being overly complicated. The touchscreen sits confidently in the centre, with crisp graphics and a layout that is easy to get used to.
Space in the front is comfortable, with a snug yet supportive driving position typical of Mini. The rear seats are usable for short trips or smaller adults, making this convertible more practical than its size suggests. Boot space is modest, but the clever hatch-style opening and loading aperture keep it usable enough for daily errands or a weekend escape.
The fabric roof deserves a mention — it operates smoothly and adds insulation against noise and heat when closed. At city speeds, the cabin remains surprisingly civilised even with the roof folded.

What makes the Convertible so rewarding is not just the numbers on paper but the way it delivers its performance. The turbo-petrol engine responds cleanly to throttle inputs, building speed with a lively, energetic nature. The gearbox shifts with a crispness that suits the car’s character, delivering seamless progress in traffic and purposeful shifts when you want to push on.
Acceleration from the 2-litre turbo petrol engine that makes over 200bhp feels strong for a car of this size, and more importantly, predictable and confidence-inspiring. It never feels strained, even when you demand more from it on open roads.
With the roof down, the soundscape changes — you hear more of the engine, the road and the world around you. It becomes an experience rather than just a drive.
Few cars in this segment feel as connected to the road as the Mini. The steering is direct and communicative, making even an ordinary commute more enjoyable. The chassis feels taut, encouraging you to place the car precisely through corners. There is a lightness to the way it changes direction — the classic Mini “flickability” is very much alive.
The ride is firm but controlled. It isn’t cushy, but it never becomes uncomfortable. Over bumps, it stays composed, and on smoother stretches, it feels planted and energetic. With the roof down, body rigidity remains impressive, and there’s minimal flex or vibration on uneven surfaces.
Convertibles are about more than engineering — they’re about sensation. In the Mini, dropping the top transforms the entire mood of the drive. You feel the sunlight, the breeze and the city’s energy in a way that only a convertible can deliver.
The roof operates quickly enough to use at traffic lights or while crawling in traffic. Wind management is good, and normal conversations remain possible at moderate speeds. It feels like a car you can drive top-down more often than you’d expect in Indian conditions.
The new Mini Convertible isn’t for everyone — and that’s precisely why it’s special. It’s compact, expressive and designed for people who value the feel of driving as much as the convenience of modern features.
It delivers charm without being pretentious, performance without being overwhelming and style without losing the essence of what a MINI should be.
If your idea of a great drive involves a bit of wind in your hair, a car that feels alive at any speed and design that stands out without shouting, the MINI Convertible makes a strong case for itself in the Indian landscape.
