How to calculate road tax?

The RTO calculates the road tax in India based on the price of the vehicle in the invoice and on the age of the vehicle. The calculation of road tax or motor vehicle is dependent on the following factors:

Vehicle and its seating capacity – whether it is a 5-seater vehicle or a 7-seater one.

The type of vehicle and its engine capacity – whether it is a 2-wheeler, 3-wheeler, or 4-wheeler.

The vehicle and its age – the IDV of the vehicle varies according to the age and so does the road tax.

Vehicle’s weight – and the capacity of the engine.

Every state in India has a different percentage and method to compute the road tax. However, the calculation of road tax or motor vehicle is dependent on the above factors. You can use a road tax calculator to estimate the road tax for your vehicle.
