One can apply for a Bharat number plate offline as well. Submit a copy of your official ID card (for government employees) or working certificate in Form 60 to your dealer for private employees. The dealer will then get the registration number on your car on your behalf and then the registration number will be allotted to you in a few days. You can either log in to the MoRTH’s Vahan portal and fill up Form 60, which is available on the Parivahan web portal, or seek assistance from an authorised automobile dealer.

How long does it take to get a Bharat number plate?

The processing time for a Bharat series number plate varies depending on the state and the RTO office. According to V3Cars, the dealer will apply to get a registration number for your car, which will be allotted to you in a few days. However, according to MyCarHelpline, the online registration process for the Bharat series number plate is expected to begin in 1 to 2 weeks and is expected to roll out by the festive Navratri season.

What is the cost of getting a Bharat number plate?

The cost of getting a Bharat series number plate depends on the price of the vehicle. According to Bajaj Finserv, if the vehicle costs more than Rs. 20 lakh, the BH series number plate registration will cost 12% of the total vehicle cost. For vehicles priced between Rs. 10-20 lakh, the tax rate is 10%. For vehicles priced below Rs. 10 lakh, the applicant has to pay 8% of the vehicle price for the BH series number plate application. Please note that as of now, there is no fee for the registration of the BH series number plate.

Benefits of the Bharat number plate

The Bharat series number plate has several benefits, including:

Nationwide Validity: Unlike regular number plates, the Bharat series number plates are valid throughout the country.

Simplified Vehicle Registration: The Bharat number plate makes it easier for people with transferable jobs to register their cars in a new state. It eliminates the need to re-register a vehicle every time someone moves to a new state.

Cost Savings: The road tax for Bharat series cars is lower than for cars with regular number plates.

Who is eligible for the BH series?

According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), the following categories of people are eligible for the Bharat number plate:

  • Government or public sector unit employees, state or central.
  • Private sector employees with offices in more than four states or union territories.
  • Defence personnel, bank employees, and employees of the administrative services, among others.

How does the BH series number plate look like?

The BH series number plate is similar to a regular number plate with black font on a white background. However, it differs from a regular number plate in that it starts with two digits, followed by the letters BH, then four digits and finally two alphabets. Here’s an example of what a BH series number plate looks like 22 BH 1111 AA.

How to calculate road tax?

The RTO calculates the road tax in India based on the price of the vehicle in the invoice and on the age of the vehicle. The calculation of road tax or motor vehicle is dependent on the following factors:

Vehicle and its seating capacity – whether it is a 5-seater vehicle or a 7-seater one.

The type of vehicle and its engine capacity – whether it is a 2-wheeler, 3-wheeler, or 4-wheeler.

The vehicle and its age – the IDV of the vehicle varies according to the age and so does the road tax.

Vehicle’s weight – and the capacity of the engine.

Every state in India has a different percentage and method to compute the road tax. However, the calculation of road tax or motor vehicle is dependent on the above factors. You can use a road tax calculator to estimate the road tax for your vehicle.
