2026 Honda ZR-V unveiled in India with hybrid powertrain as an option
Honda has unveiled the 2026 ZR-V in a hybrid-only format, signaling its strong step toward electrified mobility. Designed for global markets, including India, the stylish new SUV brings modern tech, premium comfort, and eco-friendly performance.

Honda has updated the ZR-V compact crossover SUV for the Japanese market. The new ZR-V, positioned below the CR-V, will launch in Japan in March 2026. In other markets, such as North America and China, this model is known as the HR-V.
Key Highlights
- Honda has updated the ZR-V compact crossover SUV for the Japanese market.
- The new ZR-V, positioned below the CR-V, will launch in Japan in March 2026.
- In other markets, such as North America and China, this model is known as the HR-V.
- The 2026 ZR-V will be available only as a hybrid.
The 2026 Honda ZR-V will be available only as a hybrid. Honda has discontinued the previous 1.5-litre VTEC Turbo petrol engine. The updated model now uses a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated inline-four petrol engine, producing 141 PS and 182 Nm of torque. This engine pairs with an e-CVT transmission and operates on the Atkinson cycle. The same engine is used in the 11th generation Honda Civic and the new Prelude. The ZR-V also shares its platform with the 11th-gen Civic.
The hybrid system uses the petrol engine to generate electricity and provide propulsion. The generated electricity charges a battery, which powers a separate traction motor. This motor delivers 135 kW (184 PS) and 315 Nm of torque. Depending on driving conditions, the petrol engine can also directly drive the wheels through the e-CVT.
Updated Trim Levels

Honda has streamlined the ZR-V lineup by discontinuing the X trim. The main trim now is the Z trim. Two special editions, Black Style and Cross Touring, are available. Both are based on the Z trim and feature cosmetic enhancements for a unique look.
The ZR-V introduces several new features. Google Assistant allows users to access music, make calls, and send text messages. Users can adjust the temperature hands-free. Google Maps provides real-time traffic updates and automatic detour suggestions. The Google Play suite offers access to various apps.
Upgraded Features
Key features on the Z trim include a 9-inch Honda CONNECT display, the Honda SENSING safety suite, and a 12-speaker BOSE premium sound system. Additional highlights are a 10.2-inch instrument display, fully automatic air conditioning with independent temperature control, a heated steering wheel, leather seats, and heated seats.
The model also offers a multi-view camera system, USB ports, an auto-dimming frameless rearview mirror, an electric gear selector, and a metal deceleration selector. Four drive modes are available: Sport, Normal, Econ, and Snow.

Special Editions and Market Plans
The Black Style edition features a Gray Metallic exterior and an all-black interior. Many exterior and interior parts have a blacked-out finish. The Cross Touring Special Edition has off-road styling, a Desert Beige body color, and a greige interior. It includes a unique front bumper, metallic-style skid plates, bumper corner protectors, wheel arch cladding, side sill garnish, and rear bumper garnish. The leather seats and steering wheel have exclusive orange stitching.
Honda will reveal more details, including pricing, at the time of the ZR-V's launch in March. In India, the ZR-V may be introduced later this year as a halo product for brand-building. It will compete with rivals such as the Volkswagen Tiguan and Tayron.
Conclusion
The debut of the 2026 Honda ZR-V marks another bold move in Honda’s global hybrid strategy. With its smart design, advanced features, and efficient hybrid drivetrain, the ZR-V promises to shake up India’s compact SUV market. As anticipation builds for its launch, the ZR-V could set a new standard for sustainable performance in its class.
