2026 Kia Syros EV caught camouflaged ahead of India launch
Kia's Syros EV test mule was spied in heavy camouflage with EV tweaks like charging ports and aero wheels. The H1 2026 launch promises 42-49 kWh packs for a 355 km range, targeting affordable EV buyers against the Tata Nexon EV.

Kia is preparing to expand its electric vehicle lineup in India with the upcoming Syros EV. The company already offers three EVs in the country: Carens Clavis EV, EV6, and EV9. The Syros EV, a sub-4-meter SUV, has been seen in test runs several times. Kia is expected to launch it later this year. Recent spy images have revealed several features likely to appear in the production model.

Design and Features

The 2026 Kia Syros EV will share most of its design and components with the internal combustion engine (ICE) version of the Syros. This approach helps Kia control production costs. However, the Syros EV will have unique elements to distinguish it from its ICE counterpart. These include new detailing on the front and rear, EV-specific badging, and possibly exclusive color options. The production model may also feature alloy wheels designed for better aerodynamic efficiency.
Spy shots indicate the charging port is located above the left front fender. The Syros EV maintains the upright front fascia and boxy profile of the ICE Syros, giving it a strong road presence. Other exterior highlights include distinctive headlamps, LED daytime running lights, a slatted grille, muscular wheel arches, dual-tone outside mirrors with integrated turn signals, flush door handles, and roof rails. At the rear, the SUV features vertically positioned tail lamps and a rugged bumper.
Inside, the Syros EV is expected to receive some new detailing and EV-specific badging. It may also offer additional features compared to the ICE version. Equipment likely to be carried over includes a 30-inch Trinity display, a 360-degree camera, a panoramic sunroof, and a dashcam. Safety features will include Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). The ICE Syros has received a 5-star rating in Bharat NCAP for both adult and child occupants.

Powertrain, Range, and Competition
Kia has not confirmed the powertrain options for the Syros EV. However, it is likely to use the motor and battery packs from the Hyundai Inster EV. The Syros EV may offer either or both of the 42-kWh and 49-kWh battery pack options. These packs use NMC chemistry, not LFP, which can allow Kia to offer a battery warranty of around eight years. The 49 kWh battery pack provides a range of 370 km.
The Syros EV will support fast charging, enabling a 10% to 80% charge in about 30 minutes. The Syros EV will compete with the Tata Punch EV. Higher variants may also rival the Tata Nexon EV and XUV 3XO EV. Kia is expected to price the Syros EV between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 15 lakh.
Conclusion
The 2026 Kia Syros EV's latest camouflaged spy shots signal Kia's bold push into India's booming mass-market EV space, blending familiar Syros styling with efficient Hyundai-derived powertrains offering up to 400 km of real-world range. Priced around Rs 15-20 lakh, it promises Level 2 ADAS, premium features, and urban prowess to challenge the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV 400.
