Maruti Suzuki has a good reputation for offering high-value, affordable hatchback cars in the Indian market, and the brand is gearing up to strengthen its positioning further with the launch of the competitively priced electric hatchback.
Maruti Suzuki India Limited is one of the major automobile manufacturers in India, with a market share of over 40%. The brand has several flagship best-selling cars, including the Suzuki Swift, Baleno, Wagon R, and Brezza. Maruti cars are well known for their impressive fuel efficiency, affordable pricing, and attractive features. In recent years, the automaker has faced increased competition from Tata Motors. It is now set to challenge the leading Indian car manufacturer with its upcoming launches in the SUV and EV segments. Let's explore these upcoming Maruti Suzuki cars in India.
Maruti e Vitara is one of the highly anticipated upcoming SUVs from Maruti Suzuki and is likely to hit dealerships in April this year. The automaker has revealed that it's the first EV to feature two battery pack options, a 49 kWh delivering 144 bhp and a 61 kWh delivering 174 bhp. Both battery options will be paired with a single electric motor as standard. The higher-spec trims would likely get a dual motor and all-wheel drive (AWD) system. The electric Vitara is claimed to offer over 500 km range on a single charge, making it a possible rival of the Tata Curvv EV.
Expected to launch in India by the second half of 2025, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara 7-Seater is another prominent launch to rival the Mahindra XUV700 and Tata Safari. The SUV will share the same platform, powertrain, interior, features, and design elements in its 5-seater variant. There is only one major change: increased seating and cargo space. The new Maruti Suzuki SUV will have two 1.5-liter K15C petrol hybrid and Toyota's 1.5L Atkinson cycle petrol engine options.
According to sources, the Maruti Baleno facelift is expected to offer a hybrid powertrain option, possibly launching in 2026. It will feature a Suzuki HEV strong hybrid powertrain, set to debut on Fronx in the upcoming months. Moreover, the hybrid engine is expected to add more efficiency to Suzuki's hatchback cars, ensuring fuel efficiency of up to 40 km/l. This hybrid powertrain option will be offered only in Suzuki's new Z-series petrol engine.
With a possible launch by 2027, the electric version of Maruti Fronx is a direct competitor of Tata Punch Ev. The Fronx EV will likely share a powertrain setup with the electric version of Vitara, which is confirmed to offer 49kWh and 61kWh battery packs.
Maruti Suzuki has a good reputation for offering high-value, affordable hatchback cars in the Indian market, and the brand is gearing up to strengthen its positioning further with the launch of the competitively priced electric hatchback. The upcoming Maruti electric hatchback will compete against the Tata Tiago EV. In comparison, there are no details about the powertrain and key specifications of this affordable hatchback EV; it's likely to get a smaller 35kWh battery pack. Additionally, Maruti might start the production of this hatchback EV by 2028.
