BYD Sealion 6 Plug-in Hybrid Spotted Testing in India Ahead of Possible Launch

A BYD Sealion 6 test vehicle has been seen undergoing testing in India. BYD may be preparing to introduce this plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) to the Indian market. The Sealion 6 could compete directly with JSW Motors' upcoming Jetour T2-based PHEV SUV. BYD India previously displayed the Sealion 6 at the 2025 Auto Expo to assess public interest. Currently, BYD only sells electric vehicles in India. If launched, the Sealion 6 would be the first BYD model in India with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Sealion 6 Powertrain and Performance

In international markets such as Australia, the BYD Sealion 6 is available with two engine options. Buyers can choose between a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. Both engine types can be paired with either an 18.3kWh or a 26.6kWh battery pack. The naturally aspirated hybrid setup produces 218hp and sends power to the front wheels. The turbo-petrol hybrid is offered in two power outputs, 324hp and 344hp, and features all-wheel drive as standard. BYD claims the Sealion 6 can achieve a combined driving range of up to 1,092km.

Dimensions and Exterior Features

The BYD Sealion 6 measures 4,775mm in length, 1,890mm in width, and 1,670mm in height. Its wheelbase is 2,765mm. These dimensions make it slightly smaller than the international-spec Jetour T2, which measures 4,785mm in length, 2,006mm in width, and 1,875mm in height, with a 2,800mm wheelbase. Compared to the BYD Sealion 7 sold in India, the Sealion 6 features a more traditional SUV design. The front end includes headlights and DRLs similar to the Sealion 7, but with a distinct bumper design. The side profile features standard door handles and cladding along the wheel arches and lower body. At the rear, the vehicle is equipped with connected LED tail-lamps and a large spoiler.

Interior and Key Features

The Sealion 6 offers a dual-tone cabin, available in tan and black or off-white and black color schemes. Silver trim accents the dashboard and center console. The vehicle includes a three-spoke steering wheel and leatherette upholstery. The dashboard is dominated by a 15.6-inch rotating infotainment touchscreen, while the driver benefits from a 12.3-inch LCD instrument cluster. Safety features include seven airbags, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, and ISOFIX child seat mounts. Additional highlights are a 10-speaker Infinity sound system, powered front seats, a panoramic sunroof, and dual-zone climate control.
