Affected Models and Countries:

The recall impacts various Honda models, including the Odyssey (2018-2023), Pilot (2019-2022), and Passport (2019-2023). In the US, approximately 1.2 million cars are affected, while Canada and Mexico have reported 88,000 and 16,000 affected models, respectively.

Faulty Communication Coaxial Cable Connector:

Honda Motor has identified a faulty communication coaxial cable connector in the affected vehicles, leading to potential issues with the rearview camera image. As a result, the camera image may fail to appear on the display, affecting driver visibility.

Extended Warranty and Warranty Claims:

In 2021, Honda extended the warranty coverage for vehicles affected by the rearview camera issue. According to the filing submitted to the NHTSA, the car manufacturer received a total of 273,870 warranty claims related to the rearview camera problem between May 2017 and June 2023. However, Honda has stated that there have been no reported injuries or fatalities associated with the issue.

Resolution and Fixes:

As part of the recall, authorized Honda dealers will install an improved cable harness between the existing display audio and vehicle terminal connections. Additionally, a straightening cover will be installed over the vehicle cable connector to ensure proper connection with the audio display unit.
