Hyundai Electric Midsize CUV IONIQ 5 First Look Revealed

On Thursday, the Hyundai Motor Company revealed the first-ever image, a teaser of its IONIQ 5 midsize CUV. This first model is in its IONIQ dedicated BEV lineup brand. This car will make its first appearance at a world premiere event on a virtual level in February 2021. IONIQ 5 is the first-ever vehicle that has been mated with Hyundai Motor Group’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP).

IONIQ 5 is also the first Hyundai car to come with a clamshell hood, which spans the entire width of the car, that minimises the panel gaps, creating a smooth overall look. There are aero-optimised wheels in the car that clearly shows the parametric pixel design theme. The diameter of the wheels is large, with a 20-inch diameter. These are the largest rims that have been fitted to any Hyundai EV.

SangYup Lee, senior vice president and head of Hyundai Global Design Center said that IONIQ 5 showcases an entirely new customer experience with the new innovative EV design that is the portrayal of the icon that established Hyundai’s design DNA. He said that starting with IONIQ 5, The company's BEV lineup brand will build a relationship between people and their cars, that will build a new standard against which people will measure all BEV design experiences.

The brand has also launched four teaser videos, each one of them presenting a sneak peek at IONIQ 5’s core technologies. Three Camping videos of the IONIQ 5 showcased Vehicle to Load (V2L) technology that works as a general power supply (110/220V). The ‘5 Min Challenge’ video focused on IONIQ 5’s ultra-fast charging technology that makes the car drive more than 100 km by charging it just for 5minutes.
