Jaguar Land Rover to Manufacture Range Rover and Range Rover Sport in India; Check Details

Key Highlights:

  • JLR to locally manufacture Range Rover, Range Rover Sport in India.
  • Pune plant will produce the popular SUVs for local market.
  • Local production leads to price reductions for Range Rover models.
  • India, first country to locally manufacture these luxury SUVs.
  • JLR sees remarkable sales growth, focusing more on Indian market.

Jaguar Land Rover has recently announced that it will manufacture its two most popular SUVs- Range Rover, and Range Rover Sport locally in India. The automaker will manufacture both SUVs at its plant in Pune. With the latest announcement, India has become the first country to have these SUVs manufactured locally. The company has even started the deliveries of Range Rover and Range Rover Sport from today.

Pricing Details

Some of the popular models in the JLR’s lineup will see a price dip due to local manufacturing. Talking about the model-wise prices, the Range Rover 3.0 litre HSE LWB is priced at Rs. 2.36, the Range Rover Sport is priced at Rs. 1.40 crore and the Range Rover 3.0 litre petrol Autobiography version comes with a price tag of Rs. 2.60 crore. All prices are ex-showroom (Pan India).

Reason for Local Manufacturing in India

The announcement of local manufacturing comes after the inauguration of the Range Rover house in India which is one of its kind for the automaker. For those who are unaware, Range Rover House is the experiential centre of the brand in India. The company has decided to manufacture these vehicles locally because these are two of the most popular JLR products in India.

“Over the last few years, India has witnessed steady and spectacular economic growth and is poised to grow consistently in the future as well. This growth has resulted in tremendous opportunities to localize product offerings for the discerning Indian clientele," said Lennard Hoornik, Chief Commercial Officer at JLR. “Local manufacturing of the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport in India is the next significant step towards the brand consolidating its position as the most desirable modern luxury SUV family in the country."

The F-Pace, Discovery Sport, Evoque, and Velar are the four vehicles that Jaguar Land Rover is currently producing in India. However, the top models in the brand's lineup, the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, will also be the centre of attention. The two models will be produced in addition to the ones that have been produced in Solihull, UK, since 1970

JLR claims that throughout the last several years, the company has been able to record remarkable growth in sales in India. Without disclosing any figures, their growing trajectory has driven them to concentrate more on the Indian market.

CarBike360 Says

Jaguar Land Rover's decision to locally manufacture Range Rover and Range Rover Sport in India is a strategic move, reflecting India's growing economic prowess and demand for luxury SUVs. This initiative not only makes these models more accessible to Indian customers but also strengthens JLR's market position. Local production signifies a commitment to catering to the evolving preferences of the Indian luxury car market.
