Key Updates in Indian Car Market: Skoda Kodiaq, Tata Altroz, Kia Carens Clavis EV, Audi Q9, Range Rover Sport SV
The Indian car market saw key updates including higher fuel prices, Skoda Kodiaq’s new safety features, Tata Altroz’s CNG-AMT option, Kia’s battery-as-a-service for Carens Clavis EV, and launches from Audi and Range Rover.

The Indian car market saw significant changes last week, marked by important updates rather than new launches. The most notable event was the increase in fuel prices, impacting consumers across the country. Petrol and diesel prices rose by Rs 3 per litre, while CNG became costlier by Rs 2 per kg. These changes affect running costs for both private and commercial vehicle owners.
Key Highlights
- Fuel prices increased by Rs 3 per litre for petrol and diesel and Rs 2 per kg for CNG
- Skoda Kodiaq receives Level-2 ADAS and a more affordable base variant
- Tata Altroz CNG variants now offer automated manual gearbox in five mid-spec trims
- Kia Carens Clavis EV available with battery-as-a-service, reducing upfront cost by up to Rs 6 lakh
- Audi Q9 interior previewed globally; Range Rover Sport SV launched in India with revised pricing
Major Model Updates and Launches
Skoda India introduced model-year 2026 updates for its flagship SUV, the Kodiaq. The Kodiaq now offers Level-2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), enhancing safety features. This upgrade has led to a price increase of up to Rs 1 lakh for select variants. However, Skoda made the base-spec 5-seater Lounge variant more affordable, reducing its price significantly. This move aims to attract more buyers to the entry-level segment of the Kodiaq lineup.
Tata Motors updated the Altroz premium hatchback’s CNG variants by adding an automated manual gearbox (AMT). With this addition, the Altroz becomes the only car in its segment to offer a CNG-AMT combination. Out of seven available variants, five mid-spec trims now come with the AMT powertrain option. This update provides greater convenience for customers seeking both fuel efficiency and ease of driving.
Kia joined the battery-as-a-service (BaaS) trend in the electric vehicle segment. The Kia Carens Clavis EV is now available under this scheme. Customers choosing BaaS can reduce the upfront purchase cost by up to Rs 6 lakh. Instead, they pay a monthly battery rental fee of Rs 3.3 per kilometer. This fee applies to both battery pack options for the electric MPV. The scheme aims to make electric vehicles more accessible by lowering initial costs.
Global Unveils and Pricing Revisions
Audi previewed the interior of its upcoming flagship SUV, the Q9, ahead of its expected launch next year. The Q9 will feature a three-row layout with both 6-seat and 7-seat configurations. The interior will include premium materials, ambient lighting, and advanced technology. Audi’s focus is on delivering a luxury experience with modern features for its flagship model.
Range Rover launched the Sport SV in India, positioning it below the limited-run Sport SV Edition Two. The standard SV offers similar performance features in a more accessible package. It is among the first JaguarLand Rover models in India to benefit from revised pricing under the India-UK Free Trade Agreement. Bookings for the Range Rover Sport SV are now open.
These updates reflect ongoing changes in the Indian automotive market, with manufacturers focusing on safety, convenience, and affordability. The fuel price hike is expected to influence consumer choices in the coming months.
