Kia Carens was unveiled in India by Kia with its bookings to start from January 14. The MPV will be the fourth offering from the Korean company with its details under wraps until now. Kia had shown quite a few things during the unveil like its design and some features but kept the engine and variant details under wraps.The Carens is a premium MPV offering which will slot below the Carnival in Kia’s line-up as the company is looking to raise heat on the undisputed kings of the MPV segments the Toyota Innova and the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and XL6. Kia has announced the engine and variant details for the Carens MPV.
Kia Carens Variants:
Kia Carens will have five variants – Premium, Prestige, Prestige Plus, Luxury and Luxury Plus – and will be available in 6 or 7-seater versions, depending on the variant. It will also get eight colour options- Imperial Blue, Moss Brown, Sparkling Silver, Intense Red, Pearl White, Gravity Grey, Glacier White Pearl and Aurora Black Pearl.
Here is the Variant-wise list and the features on offer:
Premium-
The base Carens is called the Premium, having 15/16-inch steel wheels with covers, depending on the engine options, two-tone black and beige interiors with indigo accents, one-touch electric tumble for the second-row seat, roof-mounted AC for 2nd & 3rd row, a 7.5-inch digital instrument cluster, rear spoiler with stop lamp while the standard safety features include 6 airbags, ABS, ESC, rear parking sensors, disc brakes for all-wheels and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System.
Prestige-
The Prestige variants has all the features from the Premium trim and some additional features like an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 12.5-inch digital instrument cluster, steering mounted controls, driver window one-touch up/down, auto headlamps with follow me home function, keyless entry, shark fin antenna, roof rails and a 6-speaker sound system while additional safety features over the standard ones include rear view camera, front parking sensors and ORVMs with integrated turn signals.
Prestige Plus-
Prestige Plus has some more features over the Prestige variant like star-map LED DRLs, LED taillamps, 16-inch alloy wheels, smart key with remote engine start, push button start/stop, automatic climate control, electrically foldable ORVMs, three drive modes for the DCT variants, rear sunshades, cooled cup holders and auto cruise control.
Luxury-
The Luxury variant adds crown jewel LED headlights, ice cube shaped LED fog lights, LED DRLs with integrated turn indicators, leatherette triton navy & beige seats also, a bigger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Kia Connect smart connectivity features, 64-colour ambient mood lighting, auto dimming IRVM and telescopic steering wheel adjustment.
Luxury Plus-
The top-spec Luxury Plus variant comes fully loaded with all the above features and adds some more like a sunroof, 8-speaker premium BOSE sound system, ambient lighting linked with drive modes in automatics only, a cooled wireless smartphone charger, rear door spot lamps with Kia logo, ventilated front seats, rain sensing wipers and paddle shifters in the automatics.

Kia Carens Engine and Specs:
The Kia Carens is 4540mm long, 1800mm in wide, 1700mm tall and has the longest wheelbase in the segment, with 2780mm and ground clearance of 195mm.The engine options for the Carens include the 1.5-litre, naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 115hp and 144Nm torque mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, a 1.4-litre, turbo-charged petrol unit making 140hp and 242Nm torque mated to 6-speed manual and 7-speed DCT gearboxes. There is also a 1.5L diesel engine producing 115hp and 250Nm torque with 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission options.
The Premium and Prestige variants will only have manual transmission options and all three engine options. The Prestige Plus will not come with the 1.5L petrol engine but will get the 7-speed DCT gearbox for the turbo-petrol while the Luxury variant will only have manual transmission with the diesel and turbo-petrol engines. The Luxury Plus trim will be the only variant to offer 6-seater layout as well as have the diesel automatic option on top of the Luxury variant.
Kia Carens Design:
The Kia Carens MPV design is very unique and bold as well modern and sporty in its overall looks, looking more like a SUV. The front has the signature Digital Tiger nose grille with Y-shaped LED DRLS neatly integrated into it. The rear has bold looking split LED taillamps based on star map concept mimicking constellations, with a red bar running through the width of the boot.
Kia Carens Rivals and Price:
The Kia Carens MPV will rival the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and XL6, along-with offering competition to the Toyota Innova. The Ertiga and Innova have led their segments for a long time and now the Carens wants to change that. Kia will reveal the prices soon which are expected to be around Rs. 13-19 lakhs mark to be real contender in the MPV space.
