Kia has announced plans to launch hybrid versions of the Sorento and Carnival in India as part of its electrification strategy. The company revealed these plans at its 2026 global investor event, highlighting India's key role in Kia's future growth. By 2030, Kia aims to expand its Indian portfolio to 10 models, with eight featuring electrified powertrains, including hybrids and electric vehicles.
Key Highlights
- Kia to launch hybrid Sorento and Carnival in India by 2030

- Kia aims for 10 models in India with eight electrified by 2030
- Annual sales target set at over 4 lakh units with 7.6 percent market share
Hybrid Sorento and Carnival Launch
The upcoming Sorento hybrid will be positioned as a three-row SUV above the Seltos. It will target buyers seeking larger, family-oriented vehicles and compete with other similarly sized SUVs. Reports indicate the Sorento hybrid may share its platform with a new three-row SUV under development for India. However, final branding and specifications have not been confirmed. Globally, the Sorento is known for its spacious design and hybrid powertrain options. Kia may adopt a similar approach for the Indian market. If local production occurs, pricing could remain competitive within its segment.
The Carnival hybrid will build on the current MPV's presence in India. The diesel-powered Carnival already serves the premium people-mover segment. Internationally, the Carnival hybrid uses a turbo-petrol engine paired with an electric motor. A similar setup could be introduced in India, though Kia has not released official details.
Affordable Electric Vehicle Plans
Kia is also preparing to launch the Syros EV, which will be its most affordable electric vehicle in India. The Syros EV will be positioned below upcoming premium EVs and is expected to share its platform with smaller global EVs from Hyundai Motor Group. It may offer multiple battery options. While specifications remain undisclosed, the Syros EV is expected to provide a competitive driving range and compact dimensions, making it suitable for urban use and mass-market competition.
Kia plans to localise production for these new models. This move could help control costs and improve accessibility for Indian buyers. The company aims to scale up its retail network across the country to support this expansion.
Growth Targets and Strategy
Kia targets annual sales of over 4 lakh units in India by 2030. The company also projects a market share of around 7.6 percent by the end of the decade. Kia's strategy combines hybrids, electric vehicles, and conventional models to address a market transitioning toward electrification. This approach allows Kia to compete in both high-volume and emerging segments.
