KTM RC 450 Launched in China: Key Features and India Launch Prospects
The KTM RC 450, launched in China with a 449cc twin-cylinder engine and 56bhp, is unlikely to enter India or Europe. KTM plans a new twin-cylinder RC for India based on a different platform.

The KTM RC 450 has recently launched in China and is attracting significant attention. This motorcycle is based on the CFMoto 450SR S and stands out for its engine, hardware, and technology. Despite its global recognition, the RC 450 is expected to remain exclusive to the Chinese market and is unlikely to launch in India.
Key Highlights
- KTM RC 450 launched in China based on CFMoto 450SR S
- RC 450 has a 449 cc twin engine with 56 HP and weighs 168 kg
- Model unlikely to launch in India or Europe due to market and regulatory factors
Market Availability and Strategy
KTM, in partnership with Bajaj Auto, is currently developing a new sub-500cc twin-cylinder platform in India. This platform is expected to support a range similar to KTM’s existing 390 series, including Duke, Adventure, Enduro, and RC models. It is not confirmed if this new platform will replace the current 390 line-up. However, KTM is expected to introduce a twin-cylinder RC model based on this new platform for India, rather than the CFMoto-based 450cc version.
KTM does not have a partnership with CFMoto in India or other markets outside China. Importing the RC 450 as a completely built unit (CBU) or completely knocked down (CKD) would make it expensive. This makes the RC 450 an unlikely candidate for the Indian market. Additionally, the RC 450 is unlikely to enter Europe, as its 56bhp output exceeds the A2 license category limit of 48bhp.
Technical Specifications and Features

The KTM RC 450 features a 449cc twin-cylinder engine producing 56 HP, which is about 4 HP more than the CFMoto 450SR S. The RC 450 weighs 168 kg, making it 3 kg lighter than its CFMoto counterpart. It also comes with a fully adjustable WP suspension, offering more adjustability at both ends.
Advanced features include cornering rider aids, multiple riding modes, and a TFT dash. These enhancements make the RC 450 a technically superior motorcycle compared to the model it is based on.
Future Prospects for India
The upcoming Indian twin-cylinder RC model is expected to be well-equipped, drawing inspiration from the Chinese RC 450. KTM is likely to price the new model competitively to challenge rivals such as the Aprilia RS457, BMW F 450 RR, and TVS RR 450.

CarBike 360 Says
The KTM RC 450’s China launch marks a bold step into the affordable twin‑cylinder supersport segment, blending 56 HP punch, track‑ready chassis tuning, and a 990 RC R‑inspired design. While India remains a “wait‑and‑see” territory for now, the RC 450’s formula lines up perfectly with what Indian enthusiasts want from a mid‑sized sportbike, making its eventual arrival a strong possibility in the coming years.
