- Anticipated as a versatile, family-friendly off-road SUV.
After the immense success of Mahindra's 4WD and RWD variants of the Thar, the company is gearing up for the launch of the 5-door Thar, expected to be named Mahindra Thar Armada. This new variant is positioned as a formidable alternative to popular sub-compact and compact SUVs, offering solid road presence, enhanced space, and additional seats, making it more suitable for family use.

Dimensions and Exteriors
The 5-door Thar Armada will be approximately 300 mm longer than its 3-door counterpart, boasting dimensions comparable to compact SUVs like Creta, Seltos, and Maruti Grand Vitara. This strategic positioning may attract customers considering compact SUVs, where Mahindra currently lacks a presence. While maintaining the core silhouette, the 5-door model features slight redesigns on the front grille, LED headlamps, and DRLs. The side profile showcases additional doors and C-pillar mounted rear door handles, and top-spec models will sport 19-inch wheels and premium features like a 360-degree camera.
Interiors and Features

Borrowing features from the Scorpio N, the Armada Thar's interiors include a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Users can opt for a black and brown or an all-black interior theme based on the variant. The SUV offers a full metal roof with a single-pane sunroof, rain-sensing wipers, keyless entry, engine auto start/off, hill descent control, a fully digital instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, rear AC vents, and front and rear armrests. The second-row seats come with a 60:40 split, ensuring flexibility and an enlarged boot space adds to the practicality.

Performance

The Thar Armada is expected to feature the 2.0-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines, possibly in a higher state of tune. Additionally, to cater to a broader audience, Mahindra may offer the 1.5-litre diesel engine at a lower price point. This move aligns with the company's strategy to provide diverse options to potential buyers.
CarBike360 Says
As Mahindra trademarks the name Thar Armada, the 5-door variant is assured to take on competitors like the Maruti Jimny 5-door and the upcoming 5-door Gurkha. The undisguised spy images and details hint at an exciting addition to Mahindra's Thar lineup, offering a compelling choice for those seeking a versatile and spacious off-road SUV. The expected launch in August has generated significant anticipation among enthusiasts and potential buyers alike.
