MG will introduce a new energy vehicle in India on July 16. This term refers to hybrids and electric vehicles in MG's lineup. The upcoming model is expected to be a rebadged version of the Wuling Starlight 560 plug-in hybrid SUV. MG filed a design patent for this model in India in March. The SUV, codenamed '520', will be available in both plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and battery electric (BEV) versions.

Dimensions and Exterior Features

The Wuling Starlight 560 is a mid-size SUV with an upright stance. It measures 4,745mm in length, 1,850mm in width, and 1,755mm in height. The wheelbase is 2,810mm. The PHEV version features a large all-black grille, while the electric version has a blanked-off grille. Both versions have sleek headlamp housings with dual projector LED lights and two LED DRL strips.
The front bumper includes a faux skid plate and black cladding for a rugged appearance. The international model rides on 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, with thick cladding over the wheel arches and roof rails. The rear features wraparound LED taillights, an all-black bumper, and a roof-mounted spoiler.
Interior and Features

The cabin of the Wuling Starlight 560 has a dual-tone theme and a minimalistic dashboard. It includes a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system and an 8.8-inch digital driver’s display. The steering wheel is a 2-spoke unit with controls for infotainment and cruise control. The SUV can seat up to seven passengers, with all seats upholstered in leatherette. Features include powered and ventilated front-row seats, six speakers, a 50-watt wireless phone charger, a panoramic sunroof, and automatic climate control with rear vents.
Expected Powertrain and Range
The Indonesia-spec Wuling Starlight 560, known as the Wuling Eksion, uses a 1.5-liter petrol engine producing 105 HP. It pairs with a 20.5 kWh battery pack. The combined output is 195 HP and 230 Nm of torque. This front-wheel-drive setup offers an all-electric range of 125 km and a total range exceeding 1,000 km. The all-electric version features a 69.2 kWh battery pack and a 201 HP front-axle-mounted electric motor. It delivers a CLTC-claimed range of 530 km. It is not confirmed if the India-spec model will use the same powertrains.
Safety and Market Position
Safety equipment includes six airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system, hill hold assist, an electronic parking brake, and an advanced driver assistance system suite. The India-spec model is expected to offer similar features. Pricing details have not been announced, but MG is likely to position the SUV competitively. The PHEV version could compete with the Mahindra XUV 7XO and Tata Safari. The electric version may rival the Mahindra XEV 9S.
