Maruti Suzuki Opens Its Fourth Manufacturing Plant In Sonipat To Boost Training
Maruti Suzuki India opens its fourth Japan-India Institute for Manufacturing (JIM) in Sonipat, Haryana, near its upcoming mega manufacturing plant in Kharkhoda.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has started the registration of its fourth Japan-India Institute for manufacturing at Sonipat, Haryana. This all-new training facility is at the Master Atul Government ITI in Sonipat. This month, the company has also started taking admissions for its firm. The training facility has an accommodation of 100 students across various applicants, such as mechanic motor vehicle, machinist, welder, and fitter.
This state-of-the-art facility aims to train youth with industry-relevant skills aligned with modern manufacturing practices. The classes for the new program will commence in September 2025. Situated near the upcoming automobile hub at Kharkhoda. This is the new milestone for the company towards the skills and development initiative.
A Strategic Collaboration for Skill Development
Maruti Suzuki has invested around Rs 10 crore in establishing JIM Sonipat. This will be the second training facility in Haryana after the institute at Uncha Majra. The establishment of the Sonipat JIM is part of a collaborative initiative between the governments of Japan and India. Both parties signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Government of Haryana to upgrade the existing ITI Kansala into the JIM facility on a five-acre campus, investing Rs 5.8 crore as a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
Cutting-Edge Training Facilities
The training institute follows a dual training program. Under this program, the aspirants learn both theoretical education and hands-on practical experience. They also guide the traders to look after the quality of work, safety standards, and kaizen practices to be used specifically in automobile production. Students gain hands-on experience with equipment and processes mirroring actual shop floors, including mini-vehicle assembly lines, engine assembly, safety labs, and advanced virtual welding.
All this training and these activities are undertaken by the institution itself. However, MSIL will also support 23 industrial training institutes in India to enhance the skills and perfection of Indian tradesmen. The company has also established a training institution for electric vehicle education in 130 ITIs and also made Automobile Skill Enhancement Centers in 31 ITIs to upgrade the skills in automation services and maintenance. The long-term management and operation of the JIM by Maruti Suzuki signifies a sustainable model that combines corporate responsibility with development goals.
From the Director’s desk
As per the reports, Maruti Suzuki India’s Chairman, Mr. R. C. Bhargava, said, “Unlike Gurugram and Manesar, there is land available to set up a fourth assembly line at Sonipat. The company will soon begin the construction of the new plant, and the first assembly line will be ready in the year 2025. We are waiting for the clearance and will begin construction shortly.” He later added, “The first assembly line at the unit will be commissioned within 3 years.”
Conclusion
The launch of Maruti Suzuki’s fourth Japan-India Institute for Manufacturing in Sonipat is a significant step toward building a future-ready, skilled workforce tailored for the fast-evolving automotive industry. With this step, more ITI students will be able to gain automotive experience, learn about vehicle dynamics, and become successful technicians in the future.
