Key Highlights

  • Maruti Suzuki YMC 3-row electric MPV spied testing ahead of launch
  • Shares platform and powertrain with the e Vitara including 49 kWh and 61 kWh battery packs
  • Expected to debut at the end of 2026 with sales likely in 2027
  • Targeting over 50,000 to 1 lakh units, including exports

Key Features and Design Details

The Maruti YMC MPV shares its platform with the e Vitara, using the same skateboard electric architecture. The test vehicle shows no exhaust pipe, confirming its electric powertrain. It also features large aero-optimized alloy wheels and front bumper air intakes similar to the e Vitara, possibly including active aero flaps.

The vehicle has a boxy silhouette with upright front and rear ends, giving it an SUV-like stance. Large headlamps with a drop-down element and vertical taillamps wrapping around the rear windscreen are visible. The taillamps appear connected by a band, resembling the design seen on the Ertiga. Unlike the e Vitara, the YMC uses regular pull-type door handles and smoother body panels.

Technical Specifications and Platform

The YMC MPV will use the same 49 kWh and 61 kWh battery packs as the e Vitara. However, due to its larger size, the range is expected to be lower than the e Vitara’s maximum claimed 543 km. The electric motor and other powertrain components will also be shared between the two models.

Maruti Suzuki is reportedly targeting a volume potential of over 50,000 to 100,000 units, including exports. The YMC MPV will also have a Toyota derivative, similar to the arrangement with the e Vitara and the upcoming Ebella.

Market Outlook and Launch Timeline

The YMC MPV is expected to debut at the end of 2026, with sales possibly starting in 2027. This model will be Maruti Suzuki’s first three-row electric vehicle. Its introduction comes as the company seeks to expand its presence in the electric vehicle segment. The e Vitara has not met initial sales expectations, so the market response to the YMC MPV will be closely watched.

Maruti Suzuki continues to develop new electric models, aiming to increase its share in the growing EV market. The addition of a three-row electric MPV could help the brand reach a broader customer base, both in India and in export markets.
