Mercedes-Benz, the epitome of luxury and innovation, has raised the curtains on its 2024 campaign in India with the grand unveiling of the GLS facelift. Packed with subtle yet noticeable design updates, new features, and cutting-edge 48V mild-hybrid technology, the German automaker is set to redefine the luxury SUV experience. The flagship model, making its debut in the Indian market at a starting price of ₹1.32 crore (ex-showroom), promises to captivate enthusiasts and buyers, also raises the benchmark for luxury on the road.
Variants and Pricing:
In India, the GLS facelift will be available in two trims - GLS 450 and GLS 400d, serving diverse preferences. The petrol-powered GLS 450 is priced at ₹1.32 crore (ex-showroom), while the diesel-driven GLS 400d comes with a slightly higher tag of ₹1.37 crore (ex-showroom).
Design Elegance:
The 2024 GLS facelift boasts of subtle yet significant visual refinements. A striking horizontally slatted radiator grille in silver steals the show, complemented by revamped LED headlamps, taillights, and a complex reprofiled front bumper. The latter features new air inlet grilles and high-gloss black surrounds, adding a touch of sophistication to the SUV's exterior.
Interior:
Inside the cabin, the GLS facelift mirrors its predecessor's luxury but introduces new upholstery options in Catalana Brown and Bahia Brown. However, the India-spec model differs from the global variant, omitting the six-seater cabin with captain seats in the middle row. The highlight is the upgraded MBUX infotainment system, combining a touchscreen interface with the driver's display, accompanied by features like a premium Burmester audio system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, and personalized sound settings.

Safety at Its Core:
Safety takes center stage with the inclusion of a parking package equipped with a low-speed 360-degree camera, an off-road mode with multiple viewpoints, and a comprehensive suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Multiple airbags, electronic stability control, and a tire pressure monitoring system further fortify the GLS facelift's commitment to safety.
Powertrain:
Under the hood, the GLS facelift offers both petrol and diesel options, each infused with a new 48V mild-hybrid system. The 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine in the GLS 450 delivers a robust 360 bhp power and 500 Nm of torque. The diesel-powered GLS 400d, on the other hand, brings out 325 bhp power and an impressive 700 Nm of torque. Both engines boast an additional 20 bhp and 200 Nm under heavy loads, thanks to the integrated mild-hybrid technology.
