EQG Concept

EQG Concept

The Concept EQG is the electrified version of the iconic G-Class, set to make its global debut later this year. While retaining the distinctive visual identity of the current G-Class, the EQG incorporates styling tweaks aligned with Mercedes-Benz's EQ range of all-electric vehicles. The concept initially wowed audiences at the Munich Motor Show last year, positioning itself as a near-production iteration of a G-Class-based EV.

Design Features

The EQG boasts of a solid panel with a 3D star pattern, replacing the traditional front grille. Other distinct features include bespoke 22-inch aluminium wheels and a storage box that mimics a wall box charger in place of the spare-wheel-carrier. Surprisingly, it forgoes the front trunk (frunk), a common feature in other EQ models. The roof rack is equipped with a bright LED strip, providing a subtle nod to the electric G-Class's potential.

Performance and Powertrain

Performance and Powertrain

Underneath its robust exterior, the EQG concept is powered by four individually controllable wheel-mounted motors. These are complemented by a two-speed gearbox offering both low-range and high-range gearing. The battery, integrated into the ladder-frame chassis, ensures a low center of gravity, promising exceptional stability. Mercedes-Benz hints at carrying over this quad-motor powertrain to the production model.

G-Turn Functionality

One of the standout features of the upcoming EQG is its unique G-Turn function. Activated by a dashboard-mounted button, this feature allows the electric SUV to execute on-the-spot 360-degree tank turns. The driver can choose the direction of the turn using paddle shifters on the steering wheel, enhancing maneuverability in tight spaces.
