MG Mulan EV Debuts in Europe: Indian launch soon?

MG Motors have started expanding globally with the new MG Mulan EV debut in the European market. MG Mulan has a cosmetically pleasing exterior whilst the company has claimed that the car will go from 0 to 100 Kmph in just 4 seconds.

MG Motor is looking to expand globally while the current global trend is actually becoming conducive for electric vehicles. MG, therefore, has decided to bring forth the new MG Mulan, the company’s newest electric vehicle. Meanwhile, the focus is also on the European market, targeting the sales numbers anywhere around 1.2 lakh units.

The 5-door vehicle, which is based on the Nebula electric platform, is MG's first worldwide electric vehicle for Europe. In China, it was known as the Mulan, while in export markets it was known as the MG 4.

The hatchback has a length of 4,300 mm, which is somewhat shorter than the Nissan Leaf. The Mulan EV accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just about 4 seconds. This new EV by MG Motors exudes style and elegance.

This car looks complete with a spectacular external appearance. It has LED headlights and taillights, a dynamic rear spoiler, and a panoramic sunroof. Almost every feature of the external design, especially the front air intake grille, has black elements for contrast. The front-grille logo is located on the lip above the grille. It's located in the midst of the wraparound taillight system in the back. A high-density battery reduces the thickness of the battery by reducing its volume. As a result, there is more space in the cabin.

MG Mulan strengthens its battery-zero thermal runway to meet tough EU standards, preventing it from catching fire or experiencing thermal runaway. The latter occurs when a battery cell short circuits, resulting in high heat and fire. The Nebula platform is designed for electric vehicles. The thin LBS (Lithium Battery System) is hidden beneath the car's floor in the MG Mulan/MG4.

The sales of the new EV Mulan, which was initially patented as MG CyberE, are likely to contribute considerably to volume growth in the next few years. Mulan has a smart cockpit with 5G connectivity and is designed for Level 3 autonomous driving.

In terms of driving control, the link rear suspension has been fine-tuned. While the MG ZS EV is only available in FWD in Europe, the Mulan/MG4 will be available in RWD. As a result, in European markets, it's easier to keep up with fast petrol-powered AWD hot hatches. While RWD is mentioned, no information about the motor(s) in use is available at this time. With the new Mulan, MG hopes to compete with Tesla's mid-range electric vehicles.

To develop automotive technology, SAIC introduced new battery systems and vehicle platforms. SAIC Nebula is a pure electric-only platform; SAIC Everest is an integrated oil and electricity vehicle architecture, and SAIC Xinghe is an electric and hydrogen vehicle architecture.

In India, the MG ZS EV is also available. The automaker reported selling 2.8k units in this country until 2021. MG's EV sales in India have been positive despite a single offering that isn't in the entry price point class. MG EV sales were just shy of 250 units in April 2022.
