The new generation Toyota Hilux is set to debut in India in July, retaining its 2.8-litre diesel engine with manual and automatic gearbox options. The pickup was unveiled globally late last year and will soon arrive in Indian showrooms after several months of anticipation.
Key Highlights
- The Toyota Hilux's new generation is to launch in India in July.
- Retains a 2.8-litre diesel engine with manual and automatic options.
- Major exterior and interior updates including dual 12.3-inch screens.
- Expected price increase of Rs 2 lakh to Rs 4 lakh over current model.
Exterior and Interior Updates

The upcoming 2026 Toyota Hilux features a significant exterior redesign, especially at the front. It now has sleeker full LED headlamps and a body-coloured mesh grille with prominent lettering. The lower bumper adopts a more rugged look with silver inserts and integrated fog lamps. The side profile remains similar to the previous model, but the 18-inch alloy wheels now sport a new design. At the rear, changes are more subtle, including a new pattern for the tail lamp internals, black-finished Toyota badging, and a compact shark fin antenna replacing the traditional one.

The cabin marks a major generational leap, looking very different from the outgoing model. The dashboard has a rugged theme and houses dual 12.3-inch screens. Other features include dual-zone climate control, a redesigned steering wheel, a stubby new gear lever, and a dual glovebox. Based on global specifications, the India-spec Hilux is also expected to offer a 360-degree camera, cooled and powered front seats, and a comprehensive ADAS suite.
Engine, Transmission, and Expected Pricing
The Hilux will likely continue with the familiar 2.8-litre diesel engine paired with a 4x4 system. Both manual and automatic gearbox options will be available. There is also a possibility that Toyota may introduce the Fortuner's recently launched 48-volt mild-hybrid system to the new Hilux. In its current configuration, this system delivers 201 HP and 420 Nm of torque with the manual gearbox or 500 Nm with the automatic.
The current Hilux is priced between Rs. 28.52 lakh and Rs. 36 lakh, ex-showroom, and is available with both manual and automatic transmissions. For the new generation, a price increase of Rs. 2 lakh to Rs. 4 lakh is expected, reflecting the extensive updates to both the exterior and interior.
