Citroen, the French automaker, is preparing to reveal its fifth vehicle for the Indian market, the Basalt SUV, on 2nd of August. Recently released teasers have shed light on new aspects of the Basalt SUV Coupe, which shares its foundation with the C3 Aircross. The Basalt will mark Citroen's second entry in the compact segment and is expected to rival the upcoming Tata Curvv. The CItroen Basalt introduces a coupe-inspired silhouette to the compact SUV category, a segment currently led by vehicles such as the Hyundai Creta and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara.
The exterior of the Citroen Basalt features design elements inspired by the C3 Aircross, including:
- X-shaped split LED DRLs
- LED headlights
- Citroen badging on the bonnet
- Chunkier bumper with faux skid plate and fog lamps
- Sloping roofline typical of coupe-styled SUVs
- Turn indicators integrated with ORVMs
- New alloy wheel design
- LED taillights
The interior of the Basalt SUV gets several enhancements:
- Rear AC vents
- Power buttons for rear windows
- Foldable armrest with cup holders
- Three-point seatbelts for all passengers
- Fixed headrest in the center of the second row
- Light beige color theme with fabric upholstery
Additional features expected include wireless charging, Type-C charging ports, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, and cruise control.
Powering the Basalt will be a 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine, producing 109 bhp and 205 Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and an automatic torque converter.
The Citroen Basalt SUV seeks to establish itself in the compact SUV segment with its coupe-inspired design and feature set, positioning itself as a more premium offering compared to the C3 Aircross.
While Citroen has not yet revealed official pricing for the Basalt SUV, industry experts anticipate it to be positioned above the C3 Aircross in the company's line-up. Given its coupe-style design and additional features, the Basalt is expected to be priced competitively against established players in the compact SUV segment. Estimates suggest a price range of ₹15-20 lakh. However, exact pricing details will only be confirmed on the launch day, i.e., 2nd August.
