The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT equipped with the optional Manthey Kit has set a new Nurburgring lap record for electric executive cars. The car completed a lap in 6 minutes 55.533 seconds. This time is about 4 seconds faster than the Yangwang U9 Xtreme. It is also 12 seconds quicker than the Taycan Turbo GT’s previous lap in October 2023, which used the standard Weissach package.
Key Highlights
- Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with Manthey Kit sets new Nurburgring lap record for electric executive cars
- Lap time of 6 minutes 55.533 seconds is 4 seconds faster than Yangwang U9 Xtreme
- Manthey Kit increases output to 816hp and 1,270Nm with major aerodynamic and suspension upgrades
- Downforce triples to 310kg at 200kph and reaches 740kg at top speed of 310kph
- Larger brakes and wider tyres improve track performance and stopping power
Record-Breaking Performance
Porsche test driver Lars Kern drove the record lap. Kern also drove the Taycan Turbo GT with the Weissach package in 2023. He noted that the car now offers more stability and confidence, especially in fast sections and under braking. Kern credited the improved aerodynamics, higher-performance tyres, and increased overboost power for the faster lap.
The Manthey Kit, available for the first time on a Porsche, brings significant upgrades. It includes changes to the powertrain, making this the most powerful production-spec Taycan to date. The battery, control unit, and pulse inverters have been optimised. The maximum discharge current during driving has increased from 1,100 to 1,300 amps. This results in a system output of 816hp and 1,270Nm of torque. These figures are 27hp and 30Nm higher than the standard model. The 10-second ‘Attack Mode’ boost now increases output from 163hp to 177hp.
Manthey Kit Upgrades
The Manthey Kit also includes extensive aerodynamic and suspension modifications. Key aerodynamic features are a new rear wing with larger end plates, a front diffuser with adjustable downforce settings, a redesigned rear diffuser with extended fins, larger underbody air dams, and carbon aerodisc rear wheel covers. These upgrades increase downforce from 95kg to 310kg at 200kph. At the top speed of 310kph, which is 5kph higher than the standard Taycan Turbo GT, the car generates 740kg of total downforce.
The suspension system has been tuned for track use. Adjustments have been made to the spring and damper controls, all-wheel drive, steering, and rear axle differential. The car uses 21-inch forged aluminium alloy rims with lighter titanium wheel bolts. These are fitted with Pirelli P Zero Rm tyres, which can be replaced with optional Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R track tyres. The Manthey Kit tyres are 2 inches wider at the front and 1 inch wider at the rear compared to the standard model.
Braking performance is improved with larger discs, measuring 440mm at the front and 410mm at the rear, and upgraded brake pads. The Manthey Kit also adds carbon-fibre elements to the front lip, side skirts, and wheel arch vents for reduced weight and improved aerodynamics.
