Kwid EV

Renault India has been representing itself as a game changer for quite some time. The brand has been observing decent sales with Triber, Duster, and Kwid. However, considering their market shares are still in revival. Their ambition to stay in the Indian automotive market has not been shattered yet, and now they are moving towards some big plans to make a comeback by the end of the 2025 season.

The French giant Renault is aiming to produce an electric car for the entry-level market under the name of Kwid EV. This car had been recently spotted testing on public roads, signaling that the brand is nearly ready to enter the budget EV market.

The images of the car, now seen with minimal camouflage, are reflecting through the internet. While looking at those spy shots, auto fans feel that the design might be similarly reminiscent of its global cousin, the Dacia Spring EV.

Renault Kwid EV: What Indian Buyers Should Know

Renault has few target cars that can escalate the sales in the Indian market. However, with the launch of the Kwid EV, the company will make its first step into the Indian EV segment. The Kwid EV might be the first EV car from the French maker for India.

The car will be positioned to rival the Tata Tiago EV and MG Comet. Renault is also redefining their business empire to deliver an affordable, practical, and mass-market four-door EV, giving urban Indians a viable option for clean and wallet-friendly commuting. The brand has also developed a pre-prototype car, which was displayed at the Auto Expo a year ago.

Renault Kwid EV Expected Specs: What’s New?

From the recent spy shots, the design and dimensions of the car look similar to the Dacia Spring EV. This car is a budget-friendly EV car that was produced for the European market. However, for the Indian market, the car will somehow be a revamped version of the Dacia EV. The company has not disclosed any update with the car; only a camouflage car was tested on roads.

Considering the design and leaks from the Dacia EV, the upcoming Kwid EV might have the same battery options available for Indian customers. As no official information is present, we can only compare with the existing Dacia Spring EV that sells in the European market. However, from the spy images, we can clarify the design and features listed below:

Design & Platform

  • The design and dimensions will likely be based on the Dacia Spring EV.
  • Production-ready versions flaunt Y-shaped LED taillights, a rear wiper, and steel wheels. Inside the cabin, we might see decent leather upholstery and minimalist ergonomic controls.
  • Remains a compact city hatchback, perfect for congested urban environments.

  • Battery & Range: Both variants are powered by a 26.8 kWh lithium-ion battery, claiming up to 225 km on a single charge, competitive for daily city driving.
  • Charging: AC charging is possible via a 7 kW home charger. A DC fast charger (30 kW) can replenish 20% to 80% charge in 45 minutes.
  • Performance: The Electric 65 can do 0–100 km/h in under 14 seconds.

Features

Considering the features and specs, the car might be equipped with a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch digital driver display, all-door power windows, potentially cruise control, and the innovative vehicle-to-load (V2L).

No advanced ADAS is expected, but essentials like dual airbags, ABS, and rear parking sensors are anticipated.

Expected Launch

Although Renault India has not issued an official date, consistent sightings and industry chatter hint at a late 2025 or early 2026 debut. However, the expected price of the car will be around Rs 8 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.

Conclusion

The launch of the Kwid EV may allow the company to expand its portfolio in the Indian market. The Kwid EV may inherit some specifications from the Dacia Spring EV, but it will generate interest among entry-level budget customers looking for affordable EV vehicles.
