Skoda Auto India may bring the upcoming Peaq electric SUV to India as new flagship model
Skoda could introduce the Peaq electric SUV in India, positioning it as a premium flagship EV with modern design and cutting-edge features.

Skoda Auto India is evaluating the launch of its upcoming flagship electric SUV, the Peaq, in the domestic market. The company aims to use the Peaq to establish a premium brand presence as it develops a localized electric vehicle platform for long-term growth.
Key Highlights
- Skoda considers launching the flagship Peaq electric SUV in India as a premium import
- Peaq will debut globally on 23 June 2026 as the brand's largest international model
- Three powertrain variants will offer up to 299 horsepower and over 600 kilometers range
- Localization of electric vehicle manufacturing in India is under development for long-term growth
Skoda Peaq Launch Plans

The upcoming Skoda Peaq is scheduled for a global debut on 23 June 2026. It will be the largest vehicle in Skoda's international lineup. The Czech automaker is considering introducing the Peaq as an imported model to shape its luxury image in India. Ashish Gupta, Brand Director for Skoda Auto India, confirmed that the Peaq is under active consideration for the Indian market. He stated that the company is reviewing the vehicle's specifications to ensure it offers a premium experience, rather than a basic model at a high price.
Gupta also highlighted that Skoda aims to align its Indian portfolio with its global luxury offerings as early as next year. Earlier this month, Skoda released exterior design sketches of the Peaq, showcasing the brand's Modern Solid design language. This approach emphasizes clean lines, balanced proportions, and distinctive surface details.
Market Strategy and Challenges
Skoda's strategy focuses on premium imports due to challenges faced by its smaller global electric vehicles in India. The entry-level Epiq, priced at about 26,000 euros in Europe, faces pricing and volume hurdles in the Indian market. Its dimensions, driving range, and import costs make it less competitive against established models like the Hyundai Creta Electric, Maruti Suzuki eVitara, and the upcoming Tata Sierra EV.
Similar challenges affect Skoda's intermediate electric crossovers, the Elroq and Enyaq. As a result, the Peaq stands out as a more suitable choice to anchor Skoda's high-end identity in India. This approach is intended to pave the way for future high-volume electric models.
Localization and Future Plans
For long-term sustainability, Skoda recognizes the need for localized manufacturing of electric vehicles in India. Gupta stated that gaining a significant market share requires domestic production, which is currently under development. However, setting up a localized, cost-effective manufacturing ecosystem will take several years due to the complexity of establishing and validating regional supply chains.
Gupta emphasized that the rollout of a fully localized electric model cannot be accelerated and remains at least a couple of years away from commercial launch.
Technical Specifications of the Peaq

The international version of the Peaq will be available in three powertrain configurations: 60, 90, and 90x. These variants will use advanced lithium-ion nickel-manganese-cobalt batteries, with capacities of 63 kilowatt-hours or 91 kilowatt-hours. The top-tier 90x variant features a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive system with a combined output of 299 horsepower. The single-motor, rear-wheel-drive versions deliver up to 286 horsepower.
The Peaq will offer a maximum driving range of over 600 kilometers on a single charge, depending on the variant. The top speed is limited to 180 kilometers per hour. The SUV supports direct-current fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 10 to 80 percent in 28 minutes.
