Skoda's first sub-4m SUV, the Kylaq, is scheduled to debut on November 6th, introducing the brand's 'Modern Solid' design language to the Indian market.
Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt Ltd (SAVWIPL) has announced its entry into the highly competitive sub-4m SUV segment with the upcoming Skoda Kylaq. Set to make its world premiere on November 6th, the Kylaq represents Skoda's first venture into this popular vehicle category in India. The Kylaq will be the third vehicle based on the MQB A0 IN platform and the first to launch under the company's India 2.5 strategy, following the success of the Kushaq and Slavia models.
The Skoda Kylaq is poised to introduce the brand's new 'Modern Solid' design language to the Indian market.
While the Kylaq's design suggests a resemblance to a smaller Kushaq, it appears to have fewer creases on the body panels, potentially simplifying the production process. The vehicle's wheelbase will be shorter than the Kushaq's to comply with sub-4m length regulations.
Although interior details remain undisclosed, some similarities with the Kushaq's cabin are anticipated. The Kylaq is expected to come with a 1.0L 3-cylinder TSI turbo petrol engine, generating 115 bhp of power and 178 Nm of torque. Transmission options will likely include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic.
While the production version will be unveiled on November 6th, the Kylaq is projected to go on sale in early 2025. Speculation suggests that production may begin as early as next month. Given the high-volume nature of the sub-4m SUV segment, Skoda is expected to implement a robust production and supply chain strategy, potentially targeting an annual production of over 50,000 units.
The Skoda Kylaq will enter a market segment currently dominated by established models such as the Mahindra XUV3XO, Nissan Magnite, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, and Renault Kiger. As Skoda's first offering in this category, the Kylaq represents a significant step in the brand's expansion plans for the Indian market.
