Skoda Octavia RS secures 5-star ANCAP safety rating with impressive crash test scores
The Skoda Octavia RS has achieved a five-star ANCAP safety rating, showcasing excellent crash protection and advanced safety technologies across multiple testing parameters.

The Skoda Octavia RS has achieved a full five-star safety rating in the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) crash tests. ANCAP uses strict protocols, shared with Euro NCAP, and requires advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) for top safety scores. The Octavia RS was tested on several safety parameters, including Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), Child Occupant Protection (COP), Vulnerable Road User Protection (VRU), and Safety Assists (SA).
Key Highlights
- Skoda Octavia RS received a five-star ANCAP safety rating
- Crash tests included frontal, side, pole, and whiplash scenarios
- Child occupant and vulnerable road user protection were thoroughly evaluated
- ADAS features like AEB and LSS are mandatory for top scores
Crash Test Performance Breakdown

The Skoda Octavia RS, available as a standard CBU in Australia and a limited-run CBU in India, underwent multiple crash scenarios. In the frontal offset test at 50 km/h, the driver's chest protection was rated as marginal, while the driver's legs and the front passenger's left leg received adequate ratings. This test resulted in a score of 4.02 out of 8.
In the full-width frontal test, also at 50 km/h, the driver's chest protection was adequate, but the rear passenger's chest protection was marginal. This led to a score of 7.33 out of 8. The side impact test at 60 km/h rated all critical areas for the driver as good, earning a perfect score of 6 out of 6.
The oblique pole test at 32 km/h rated the driver's chest protection as marginal, scoring 5.29 out of 6. Whiplash protection received a score of 3.58 out of 4, with minor deductions noted in rear impact tests. Far-side impact tests at 60 km/h and 32 km/h (oblique pole) rated protection as good, scoring 4 out of 4.
Rescue and extrication tests showed all doors could be opened after impact, and the window could open if the car were submerged in water. This resulted in a score of 4 out of 4.
Child and Vulnerable Road User Safety
In the front dynamic test at 50 km/h, chest protection for the 10-year-old dummy was adequate, but neck protection was poor. The six-year-old dummy received good protection overall. This test scored 14.23 out of 16.
The side dynamic test at 60 km/h rated chest protection for the 10-year-old dummy as poor, while the six-year-old dummy was rated as good, scoring 7 out of 8. Restraint installation and on-board safety features received scores of 11.81 out of 12 and 7 out of 13, respectively.
Head protection for vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians, was evaluated. The bonnet provided good protection, while the windscreen was rated as adequate. The A-pillars were rated as poor, leading to a head protection score of 12.78 out of 18.
Safety Assist Technologies
The Octavia RS includes a Lane Support System (LSS) and Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), both required for a five-star rating under ANCAP and Euro NCAP protocols. The LSS motorcycle test scored 2.5 out of 3, but protection was rated as poor. The AEB (reverse) performance was marginal. Driver monitoring received reduced scores because, while a drowsiness detection system is present, there is no intervention mechanism.
