Tata EV

Indian electric mobility has been evolving with the times, and Tata EV is leading the charge for India’s sustainable development, economic growth, and energy. The newly released India Charging Report 2025 reveals that the nation, where electric vehicles are no longer an urban future vision, is now becoming a primary mode of travel for Indians.

This evolution from the combustion engine to EV adoption is reshaping travel behavior while demanding rapid expansion. According to the nation’s perspective, there is space for improvements in terms of charging infrastructure, reliability, accessibility, and seamless connectivity to unlock EVs’ full potential on Indian roads.

From Niche to Necessity

Within the span of two years, EV adoption has increased, with 65% of India’s pin codes now hosting at least one registration of electric vehicles. What’s even more striking is that 84% of Indian EV owners are now using their EV as their primary vehicle, which is up from 74% in 2023.

This transition shift from ICE to EV is not limited to city life. The electric cars now, on average, travel 1600 km monthly. This figure is 40% more than ICE-powered vehicles. In 2023, this figure was stagnant, around 11% overall across the nation.

On the Open Road: Range Anxiety Fades

On the open road, EVs are now covering over 95% of India’s open road networks. When we improve charging infrastructure across the country, this can be a positive trend. Half of the buyers or owners of Tata EVs have covered over 500+ km road trips, like from Delhi to Manali and Mumbai to Goa. As per the reports, 95% of India’s transportation roads now have a fast charger for every 50 km or less.

From 2023 to 2025, India saw a staggering 4x the growth in public chargers. Forward to 2025, there are now 24,000 charging stations, and more will be added by the end of the 2025 season. This fleet was achieved by Tata EV’s Open Collaboration Framework, partnering with oil marketing companies. The initiative added 18,000+ chargers in just 15 months using insights from 1.4 billion km of EV driving data to target installation hotspots.

Establishing trust through verified charging networks

To bring up trust among the customers, Tata. ev introduced .ev verified chargers that help to establish standards for Tata EV compatibility and operational reliability. But one of the challenging parts is that despite rapid growth, around 12,100 public chargers were found non-functional in early 2024. To address this situation, Tata’s verified chargers certified 90%+ uptime with positive feedback.

The company’s push for a unified payment ecosystem includes:

  • iRA.ev app with live charger status and cross‑network payments
  • DrivePay in‑car solution
  • Unified RFID card for tap‑and‑pay
  • UPI integration for nationwide ease of use

Future Ahead

India’s EV ecosystem is evolving at a record pace. But TATA.ev warns the journey isn’t over—charger visibility, speed, interoperability, and reliability need continued focus for EVs to truly dominate Indian roads. The future holds Tata.ev, as the brand decided to set up 500 mega chargers on national highways and within the urban streets.
