Tata Motors has started dropping multiple teasers and photographs as they near the launch of the long-awaited "Punch Facelift". Tata Punch has been in the market since 2021, followed by its contribution to the leading sales chart, especially with the monthly graph. Additionally, Punch received a mid-life update in terms of interiors two years back. However, the upgrade did not revamp the fascia. The upcoming facelift, on the other hand, promises significant changes, not only with the cosmetics but also mechanically. So, let's delve into what's beforehand the most talked-about camouflaged Tata after Sierra.
Exterior & Design:

The exteriors have completely been reworked, accompanied by a similarly painted but sleeker grille hoisting the 2D Tata logo and a sharper set of daytime-running LEDs (DRLs) housed inside a glass panel, which also packs side blinkers in a bulb. Likewise, the headlamp positioning remains the same. However, they're now the exact reflectors of the Nexon Facelift, and a similar story revolves around the LED fog lamps, which also feature cornering functionality. In addition to that, the air dams get a dual-tone scheme. Moreover, the tyre size is similar to the 195/60 R16 numbers, though the design for the alloys is different now.

The last evident change in the exteriors comes at the tail end, where the lightbars now mimic the Altroz Facelift with a connecting pattern, followed by the reflector strips placed sideways on the diffuser.
Interiors & Features:

The interiors more or less portray a similar look, carrying just minimal changes in the fabricated upholstery. The dashboard layout carries a dual-tone colour code, boasting a familiar 10.45-inch all-touch sensitive floating infotainment display, which is expected to be loaded with the iRA connected car suite, wireless smartphone mirroring (Android Auto/Apple CarPlay), and JBL modes for the 8-speaker sound system, which is again anticipated to be part of the list.

A fully digital triplet instrumentation is likewise to be offered in the higher trims, which unfortunately wouldn't chromecast the navigation. Furthermore, the steering has been revised to the illuminated multifunctional unit, which is limited to the rake/height adjustability. Similarly, the HVAC panel for the single-zone climate control has been switched to the same 'phygital' controls as the Punch.ev.

Tata has planned to leave no stones unturned, and as an outcome the facelift will be loaded to the brim with features such as a 360-degree camera, ambient lighting, wireless charging, auto-dimming IRVM, blind-way monitor, and maybe some functionalities of ADAS as well on the active safety front. However, it's unclear whether the front seats' ventilation will make its way or not. Into the bargain, the highlighted features which are to be retained are a cooled glovebox, a single-pane voice-controlled sunroof, hill-descent control, rear air con vents and cruise control with a speed limiter.
Engine & Performance:

The Punch continuously derives power from a single 1199cc engine option divided into two working modules: firstly a 1.2L 3-cylinder N/A and secondly a 1.2L 3-cylinder N/A + iCNG, both of them mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT transmission. However, the facelift promises to elevate the game with the introduction of the ‘Revotron i-turbo’, which will be the borrowed unit from the "Altroz Racer", whereas it is tuned for better refinement levels considering the body-to-weight ratio, further offering a strong linear power delivery through improved throttle response adapting to the Otto cycle, alongside a multipoint port injection for efficient fuel delivery. The engine infrastructure will stick to being a 1.2L 3-cylinder 12-valve mill. However, the addition of a single scroll turbocharger allows the performance figures to go around 118-120 bhp and a peak torque of up to 170 Nm. Having said that, the variable geometry mechanism would not be available.

To manage such an increase in the figures, this unit is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission calibrated to hydraulic clutching and possibly a 7-speed DCT, although the traction-pro mode will be standard across all the automatic variants.
Conclusion:
Tata Punch is already considered to be the best value-for-money package in the subcompact SUV space, and with the facelift off the shores, the released updates affirm doubling the overhaul value proposition. Nevertheless, the enhancements come at a cost, which could lead the prices to rise between fifty thousand to one lakh rupees. Well! What exactly will be the prices, and will there be a dark edition this time in the house? This can only be answered when the wraps are taken off the all-new Punch Facelift.
