The all-new Hilux also boasts hybrid and conventional diesel options to maintain the pickup’s signature toughness with a refreshed design and advanced tech features. As global anticipation builds, many industry analysts eagerly await any scoop that the Hilux EV will be launched in India. Here’s everything you need to know about the all-new Toyota Hilux 2026.

The Design

For the 2026 iteration, the Hilux now comes with sharper lines and possesses a more angular design. While looking at the front, the pickup offers closed-off front grills that showcase its electrified domain. We can expect that the charging port might be positioned on the front fender itself. Being an electric vehicle, the brand would offer a new set of tyres, a new rear deck, and side steps as well. The new model Hilux comes standard with a double cab body across the portfolio.

Talking about its interiors, the new Toyota Hilux comes with a prominent upgrade under the cabin. The dashboard boasts a fully digital 12.3-inch driver’s instrument display and a central touchscreen of the same size. The latest BEV variant gets a single-action shift-by-wire selector. The brand offers sophisticated features such as wireless charging and rear USB ports that keep passengers connected and powered.

As safety is the top priority of Toyota, the all-new Hilux BEV will be integrated with the latest myToyota app, which allows users to review the charging levels and review journey history. The vehicle now includes Low Speed Acceleration Suppression, Proactive Driving Assistance, and Emergency Driving Stop System with OTA updates. Other features include Blind Spot Monitor, Safe Exit Assist, and a Driver Monitor camera.

Toyota Hilux Electric: Powertrain

The all-electric Hilux is powered by a 59.2 kWh lithium-ion battery paired with dual electric motors providing an all-wheel-drive layout. It delivers a total torque output of 205 Nm on the front axle and 268 Nm on the rear, with a real-world driving range of approximately 240 km on a single charge.

The EV Hilux retains its hallmark body-on-frame chassis and offers impressive utility with a payload capacity of 715 kg and a towing capacity of 1,600 kg. This blend of electric efficiency and traditional strength makes the Hilux Electric a formidable contender in global pickup segments.

Global Launch and Market Position

Toyota is set to introduce the Hilux Electric first in key markets like Thailand, Japan, Europe, and Australia, and later in the UK by mid-2026. Production is slated to commence by December 2025, with the diesel and hybrid variants arriving shortly after in 2026.

Will the Toyota Hilux Electric Come to India?

India’s market offers both opportunities and challenges for an electric pickup truck like the Hilux EV. Toyota launched the diesel Hilux in India in 2022. The country is gradually adopting electric vehicles, but the market for electric pickups is still minimal, with infrastructure and regulatory frameworks evolving.

Industry reports suggest Toyota could bring the new-generation Hilux to India by 2026-27, potentially including its electrified variants as part of its ambitious plan to launch 15 new models in the country by 2030. However, due to the high price sensitivity, charging infrastructure, and market readiness, the gasoline and hybrid versions will likely precede the electric version.

Conclusion

The global introduction of the Toyota Hilux Electric signals a significant shift in the pickup landscape, blending durability with cutting-edge electric technology. While its launch will initially focus on markets with mature EV infrastructures, India remains on Toyota’s radar, likely to see the new Hilux in a phased manner.
