Nissan is planning to introduce a new range of SUVs in the Indian automotive market. As part of its portfolio expansion, Nissan will launch multiple models by 2027. One of these is the upcoming C-segment midsize SUV, which was recently spied under heavy camouflage. Later this year, Nissan launched a teaser showcasing its all-new upcoming SUV, and now, months later, a test mule has been spotted for the first time.

Poised to challenge some of the segment’s biggest names, this SUV is expected to launch by the end of 2025 or mid-2026. The brand hopes that this SUV might put Nissan back in the spotlight as a better contender in the Indian SUV market. Let’s check out the possible details of the vehicle.

Design Philosophy: What to expect?

The overall design of the upcoming compact SUV might have taken inspiration from Nissan’s existing model, the Duster. However, few cosmetics resemble their flagship icon, the Patrol. The car will be accompanied by a bold presence identity, showcasing a sculpted bonnet and a wide rectangular grille. The front fascia of the car offers LED headlamps, rugged bumpers arched with 5-spoke alloy wheels.

At the rear, the car is equipped with boxy-rectangular LED taillights with roof rails and a shark-fin antenna that come together to give an aesthetic look. A few key highlights are a substantial body cladding running through the side profile, a raked windshield, and high-mounted brake lights.

Features for next-generation drivers

The upcoming Nissan SUV will share many technical features with the next-gen Duster. Inside the cabin, it could be integrated with a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Even with this, you might get a 7-inch digital driver display, USB charging ports, wireless connectivity, and front ventilated seats.

For safety considerations, the car might come with 6 airbags, an electronic stability program, rear parking sensors, and a tyre pressure monitoring system. The top-tier variant of the car may include ADAS functionality, hill control assist, traffic sign recognition, and a 360-degree camera setup.

What’s under the hood?

As the car is based on the next-generation Duster, we can't expect much under the hood. The SUV will have the same powertrain as the Duster. However, options can be available based on the possible variants to be launched in India. For the standard version, it can be powered by a 1.0L petrol-LPG (factory-fitted) bi-fuel engine that generates 100 HP of peak power.

Another option will be a 48V mild setup that would churn out 130 PS and a 1.6L strong hybrid variant featuring two electric motors with a power output of 140 PS in the top trim level. Moreover, we can expect this car to offer a 5-seater as well as a 7-seater configuration.

Conclusion

The upcoming Nissan SUV will raise expectations for Indian consumers. With rugged design and cutting-edge features, the car will be tough competition for its rivals, the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, and Suzuki Grand Vitara. Its flexible engine options—including turbo-petrol, hybrid, and CNG—will ensure practicality and efficiency, meeting the demands of both urban commuters and adventure seekers.
