In India, Toyota currently sells the previous Hilux generation, priced between Rs 28.52 lakh and Rs 36 lakh. The Indian model uses a 2.8-litre, 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine producing 204 PS. Torque is rated at 420 Nm with the 6-speed manual and 500 Nm with the 6-speed automatic transmission. All Indian variants feature 4WD.
Powertrain and Hybrid Technology

The 2.8-litre diesel engine in the new Hilux is essentially the same as the one used in the previous generation. In select markets, Toyota pairs this engine with a 48V mild-hybrid system, which includes a 48-volt battery and an electric motor generator. This setup enables smoother starts, regenerative braking, and improves fuel efficiency by 5-10%. The new Hilux delivers a fuel economy of 10 km/litre.
After Poland, Toyota plans to introduce the diesel MHEV Hilux in other European markets. The BEV version of the Hilux is also expected to play a significant role in Western Europe, particularly for urban and green fleet operations.
Features and Capabilities
The 9th-generation Hilux maintains its 700 mm water wading capability and a towing capacity of 3,500 kg. The updated design secures the placement of electric components without compromising utility. The Hilux continues to use a ladder-on-frame chassis for durability.
Higher trims feature a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, perforated leather upholstery, and a JBL premium sound system with nine speakers. Additional features include heated rear seats, 18-inch alloy wheels, electric driver’s seat adjustment, a four-camera Multi-Terrain Monitor, a 360° camera, LED fog lights, dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and wireless charging.
Safety features include front and rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, blind spot monitoring, slope descent control, emergency braking signalling, and Multi-Terrain Select off-road driving mode.
