Key Highlights

  • Toyota releases first teaser of next-generation Hilux for India.
  • Expected to retain 2.8-litre diesel engine with four-wheel drive.
  • Features include a 12.3-inch touchscreen and Level 2 ADAS.
  • Launch scheduled for July 28 with prices from Rs 35 lakh.

Design and Exterior Updates

The teaser image shows the Hilux with a larger front grille and slimmer LED headlamps. The front now displays 'TOYOTA' lettering instead of the traditional logo. A new dark yellow shade, named Sunglow, will be available. The teaser also shows a rollbar on the bed, but it is unclear if this will be a factory feature or a dealer-installed accessory.

The new Hilux will continue to be offered only in the double-cab configuration for the Indian market. This maintains the model's focus on practicality and versatility for both personal and commercial use.

Interior Features and Safety

The cabin of the next-generation Hilux is expected to receive several upgrades. Anticipated features include a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, dual-zone climate control, powered and ventilated front seats, and a 9-speaker JBL audio system. The model is also likely to offer connected car technology and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.

For safety, the Hilux is expected to include Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), seven airbags, hill hold assist, hill descent control, a tyre pressure monitoring system, electronic stability control, a 360-degree camera, and front and rear parking sensors. The current generation of the Hilux has received a 5-star crash safety rating from the Australian NCAP, highlighting its strong safety credentials.

Engine and Powertrain Details

The new Hilux is likely to continue with the 2.8-litre diesel engine, paired with either a manual or automatic transmission. Four-wheel drive will remain standard. Toyota may also offer an optional mild-hybrid system, similar to the one available in the Fortuner. Globally, the Hilux is offered in a fully electric version, but this powertrain is not expected to launch in India soon.

Pricing and Competition

The next-generation Hilux is expected to be priced from Rs 35 lakh (ex-showroom). Its main competitor in the Indian market is the Isuzu V-Cross. Buyers may also consider it as an alternative to the Toyota Fortuner SUV.

CarBike 360 Says

With the official debut just around the corner, the next-generation Toyota Hilux is shaping up to be a significant upgrade in both design and capability. The teaser has already sparked interest among enthusiasts, and all eyes are now on July 28, when Toyota will reveal full details, including specifications, features, and pricing for the Indian market.
