The new Triumph Bonneville 400 test mule features a sportier look compared to earlier sightings. It includes a headlight cowl, which gives the motorcycle a Roadster-style appearance. Unlike the previous version that showcased chrome highlights such as a chrome rear grab rail, chrome handlebar, chrome exhaust, and a silver-finished engine casing, the latest test mule omits most of these chrome elements. Instead, it uses a matte black finish for the pea-shooter exhaust and rear grab rail.

The latest test mule also features a tail light neatly mounted on the rear fender, which was missing in the earlier chrome-highlighted version. These changes indicate that Triumph and Bajaj may offer the Bonneville 400 in several variants, each targeting different customer preferences and price points. This strategy aligns with approaches taken by rival manufacturers in the segment.

Design and Mechanical Features

The Triumph Bonneville 400 adopts several retro design cues. It uses RSU telescopic front forks with fork gaiters, wire-spoke wheels with tube-type tyres, a single-piece seat, and circular headlights. The motorcycle is equipped with disc brakes at both the front and rear, and dual-channel ABS is expected for enhanced safety.

This model is the first in the Triumph 400 range to feature a twin rear shock absorber suspension setup with a new subframe. The instrument cluster is an all-new circular unit, which appears to be fully digital. It could be a TFT screen or a simpler LCD unit. While the digital cluster is likely, some enthusiasts may hope for an analog tachometer and speedometer in the base variant to maintain a classic feel.

Engine Options and Market Position

The upcoming Triumph Bonneville 400 will offer different engine options for global and Indian markets. It will come with a 398cc engine for international markets and a 349cc engine for India. Power and torque figures are expected to be similar to the Triumph Speed T4, paired with a 6-speed gearbox. These specifications position the Bonneville 400 as a direct competitor to established models in the retro motorcycle segment.
