Record-Breaking Performance
The Golf GTI Edition 50 is now the fastest Volkswagen production model on the Nordschleife. Volkswagen developed this special edition to celebrate 50 years since the first Golf GTI. The Edition 50 uses a 2.0-litre TSI engine, tuned to deliver 325hp and 420Nm. This is an increase of 64hp and 50Nm over the standard GTI.
The car retains the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox from the standard GTI. Volkswagen claims the Edition 50 can accelerate from 0 to 100kph in 5.3 seconds. The top speed is rated at 270kph. Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) comes as standard equipment on this model.
Design and Special Features
The Golf GTI Edition 50 features several visual and functional upgrades. It displays GTI 50 badges on the spoiler and tailpipes. The roof, outside mirrors, and exhaust have a black finish. A contrast stripe runs along the lower side of the doors.
Inside, the Edition 50 offers GTI 50 branding on the steering wheel. The sport seats feature a check pattern, and the seat belts are red. Unique interior trim further distinguishes this edition from the standard model.
Performance Packages and Weight Reduction
The optional GTI Performance package includes a reworked suspension, lowering the car by 15mm. It also adds Bridgestone Potenza Race semi-slick tyres and 19-inch alloy wheels. These changes aim to improve grip and reduce rolling resistance. The wheels also reduce weight by 4.4kg.
An R-Performance exhaust system is available, featuring an Akrapovič titanium exhaust. This system reduces the car’s overall weight by 11kg.
Additional Industry Updates
Mercedes plans to launch the AMG GLC 53 Coupe in India next year. Audi has also remade the V16-powered Auto Union Lucca road racer.
